Quick, sustained elevation but doable in 2.5hrs. My 14yo daughter outpaced me handily. Nice views at top and good workout.

This is a difficult trail if you aren't an avid, in shape hiker. It took us 4 1/2 hours out and back w about a 25 minute stop at the top. It's a mix of roots, a lot of rocks, almost reminding me of walking thru a semi dry Stream bed. We took our 5 Year old, 75# dog with us as well. The dog made it up and down with a little soreness, the same as the two of us. The views at the top are amazing! Do know that the hike is tough, but well worth it!

Love this hike! So pretty and tough, but not killer.

Hiked yesterday morning with my wife and 9 year old son who are both experienced hikers. Trail is fairly flat and was a little muddy during the first mile , but there are plenty of stepping stones and bridges to help cross. Last part of trail is steep to the top but it also had stones set in place that form a natural stair way to help climb. Once at the top views are simply amazing!! 360 degrees all around. Highly recomen. Took us 1hr 40 mins up , 1hr 20 mins down.

We enjoyed this hike. There were not many people on the trail, it was great for our dog cause there were streams for him to cool off in. The trail is totally shaded the entire way, great views of Moosehead from the top.

It took us 1h 17min to Summit from the trailhead off North Rd. 2h 35min round trip. We are a couple in their 30s, with a 10year old Labrador. We are average hikers, and we’d classify this as moderate. Bring bug spray.

The first half is easy-moderate with slight inclines mixed with flat. The second half gets a bit steeper. There isn't much of a view until you get to the top, it's worth it!

Steep steps for a good part of the way, but manageable (even for a short person and my 12-year-old cocker spaniel). The views from the scenic outlook (about 2/3 of the way up) and from the top were spectacular. We took our time and enjoyed the views including looking around at the old house. It took us 3-1/2 hours.

more moderate than hard, aside from the steps near the top a very manageable hike. The views were good and i would recommend going the extra distance at the top to get to the heli pad. took about 4 hrs

The trail was very enjoyable and moderately challenging at points. Limited views until you make it to the top but in the end it is worth it.

Great trail - I think describing a trail as "Easy, Moderate or Hard" is all relevant. We completed this trail in a little under three hours. It was a gorgeous trail, with limited views until you get to the lookout and then to the summit. We had a beautiful day to hike, but definitely needed some warmer clothes at the summit, as the stuff we wore was wet with sweat and it got quite chilly while standing still taking the necessary peak photos. I would rate this trail as moderate - it will get your blood pumping but it is worth it. Check out the cabin on your way up/down and take a minute to read all the notes and scribbles inside left behind by other hikers.

Great hike. I took three teenage boys and they enjoyed every bit of it. Challenging in parts. Views are Awesome! Make sure at the top you keep walking across the summit where you will be able to view Mirror Lake and more views.

This is a terrific hike. The entry description is ridiculous though...it doesn't mention the terrific views at the top and it is not hard. Hardly any scrambling involved and moderate elevation change most of the way.
Maintenance is overdue on the bridges

This mountain was actually called sqaw mountain until the politically correct had to have it changed. There once stood the first fire tower in the country on top, since has been removed and is on display at visitors center on way into town.great views of moosehead lake from up here on clear day.

This was a great hike. Steep and challenging for a large part of the middle. Good to do on a sunny day as all except the top is in tree cover. Beautiful view of Moosehead from the top. We were not able to start this until later in the afternoon and I was afraid we would run out of day light but we didn't. We hiked at a steady speed with a couple stops to grab a drink and took plenty of time at the top to take pictures and it took us 3 1/2 hours. Definitely would do again.

Rustic with no frills. I hike 2-3 mountains each year and was able to complete this round trip in 3 1/2 hours including lunch at the top
It was well marked but a little hard to tell when I was at the summit.

Nice hike up and it is all up. We were hoping we would climb above the clouds, but not this time. We still enjoyed the summit, even though the fog robbed us of the magnificent views. There are a couple creek crossings where the log bridges were rotten or broken and almost all of the log walk ways through the muddy areas were rotten. The trail could use a little love in places.

Great trail with great views at the summit (ignoring the cell-tower)! The trail up gets steep near the end, but its only 2.2 miles up (4.5 round trip) and great for a slow day-hike or a fast-paced afternoon hike. A really fun, rewarding trail. I do it every year!
