Getting There

A nice trail that gives you a chance to see the Bickford Slides on the way to the summit. It's always nice to spend time on top of this peak with views of Old Speck, the Mahoosics and Carter Ranges. This trail is the old access road to the fire tower (now removed) on Speckled Mtn. It has an almost constant grade from trailhead to summit and is easy to follow.

Plenty of parking at the Brickett place but you will need a National Forest parking pass. You can pay a visit to the Brickett homestead and learn some history of Evans Notch area.

Maine Office of Tourism, 59 State House Station , Augusta, ME, 04333-0059, Phone: (888) 624-6345

Take Rt. 113N to the Brickett place in Evans Notch.

Lots of snow about halfway up. I had to break the trail. Wish I had brought snowshoes as I was often postholing knee deep. Beautiful view at the top!

Long hike but great, mostly gentle incline. Did not do the loop with blueberry ridge (which we nicknamed the Devil's Staircase the last time we hiked down that way!) but choose to do a round trip on Bickford. 5.5 hour round trip with about 30 minutes on top.

beautiful 2nd day of fall for a hike. it was 80+ yesterday! did bickford brook trail only as ground bees were reported on blueberry ridge/slides trail. 3 dogs and 3 non brave owners came to that decision. no one else on the trail this Tuesday. 2 Canada Jay's to feed at the summit of speckled. some threatening skies in the area but escaped any rain. highly recommend the hike.

7/19/19 only went to the falls loop! So pretty! Some parts of the trail were very thin and on the edge of the cliff! 8/2/19 came back and did the whole trail! There was a couple trees laying across the trail, looks like one tree came down recently and brought another one with it! We just climbed over them. Two different fitbit’s said we hiked 12 miles round trip! The view at the top is so worth the sweat and tears!

A nice even grade to the summit of Speckled Mtn. Make sure to take the side loop and check out the Bickford slides waterfalls. The trail is fairly wide and easy to follow. Part of the trail goes thru the Caribou- Speckled Mtn Preserve so some special regulations apply.
