This was my first hike after not visiting Acadia in years and not hiking for many months. It was incredible! The beehive was the most challenging part but the experience and views from the top were well worth it. The journey up Gorham was much more gradual. The ocean path was very busy but brings you right next to some of the highlights, including Thunder Hole! I recommend starting as soon as possible. I was able to get parking at around 8:30 but by the time I returned, people were parking on the road and beehive was backed up.

What a way to kick off our Acadia vacation. This is 3 (really 4 if you count The Bowl) very different trails. The Beehive was a lot of fun, but I have somewhat mixed feelings. The rungs make perfect sense, but the best scrambles could be done 100 different ways and there's basically one option here. The views atop both Beehive and Gorham were ace. My son and I seemed to be the only ones crazy enough to go into the Bowl, but I found it to be not that cold. The Ocean Trail may not be the best hiking, but provides many opportunities to explore the coast (including Monument Cove and Thunder Hole). Overall, we loved it. Best advice is to go early. We went at 9:15AM and had no waits. When we were atop Gorham, we could already see there were a ton of people on Beehive.

HikingGreat!

Beehive had a long line like a ride at an amusement park, not sure if it was people afraid of heights or just backing people up by taking photos at the top. Either way, totally not worth that part, underwhelming, and views at the top were the best anyway. So I’d recommend doing a different route and going to the top of beehive, then going the way you came. Once we got to Gorham Trail, much less people and not as a much loud families and noise pollution. Loved jumping in the ocean at the end! Still worth it, but get there EARLY for beehive, or maybe much later in the day?

Beehive was mentally tough but physically not that bad. The rest of the trail was easy. Beautiful views!

Challenging going up, beautiful views! Got there around 9 and had to wait a bit as ladders were backed up just for a few minutes. Well worth it!

Like others have said you should start the loop at Beehive so you don't have to go down it. It's very fun and challenging going up.

Did this loop backwards and ended up going down the beehive instead of up. Very fun but would recommend sticking to up, not down!

My favorite hike in Acacia! Beehive is super fun to climb, especially early without the crowds. Otherwise it can get backed up, maybe by 10-11am. Great view of the islands from the top. Combining it with Gorham and the coastal walk is an awesome way to do the other must-see’s in Acacia. The coast is beautiful, a great easy way to finish the hike. Convenient to chill on Sandy Beach after too.

Completed on 7/3! Beehive was short, but provided great views onto Sand Beach and the ocean. The ladder rungs were safe and the wait was not too far backed up. Adding the loop to Gorham was enjoyable. Favorite park of the hike was the walk along the coast back towards Thunder Hole.

Beautiful hike — amazing climbs and views. But I do not recommend hiking down beehive. It was very steep and dangerous. Either turn back to bowl trail when you reach the top of beehive or do the trail the opposite direction and begin by climbing up beehive.

Lots of fun going up the Beehive trail and Gorham offers beautiful panoramic views of the ocean! Adds some distance, as well. This is a great first-day hike because coming back up the Ocean Path along the coastline to finish gives you a little bit of everything. Also, take the Cadillac Ridge side trail on the way down Gorham to walk through some astounding rock formations...another nice surprise on this trail!

Started at Beehive trailhead and hiked counterclockwise. This is recommended as the steep section at Beehive will get backlogged from hikers going up. Trying to hike down this section will only add to the backlog jam. The initial climb on Beehive trail can be a bit steep at times but certainly doable. A few places can be a cliffhanger but it’s mostly mind over matter. Once on the summit, the hike down Gorham trail is gradual and easy. Highly recommended. It’s a great hike.

Started at the Gorham mountain trailhead, to the summit of Gorham mountain & down beehive trail. Very steep at points & many iron rungs. Apparently, it is not recommended that you go down the beehive trail? People we met at the summit were surprised that we lived. But we did, it really wasn't that bad. BRING GLOVES FOR GRIPPING.

Amazing view! especially during autumn when the foliage is out and the crowds are down. Definitely start at the beehive. We met some hikers on the trail who started at Gorham and were disappointed.
