Thought this would be a really cool hike to do during low tide, but it was underwhelming... I loved the idea of walking on the path "through the ocean" but compared to the other hikes it was just alright. The view onto the island was crowded and it was very foggy when we went. I thought we'd see more sea life in the tide pools across too, but I was disappointed. However, it was of course still beautiful just like the rest of the park!

Easy walk across the bar to Bar Island. The hike up and down we’re easy when you get to the top there is a view of Bar Harbor Village. Nice

Great little hike to take the kids on. when crossing the sand bar the kids can check out lots of tide pools before reaching the island and starting the climb to the top. Again very easy with kids. Cool view of Bar Harbor at the top and then easy going back down. Make sure to plan this hike around low tide. You can pass across the sand bar 1.5 hours before low tide to 1.5 hours after low tide. After that, you're either waiting until the next low tide, swimming across, or calling for a water taxi to come get you at your expense (not cheap from what I hear). Good little relaxing hike.

This is an easy hike after crossing from the mainland. You can cross to Bar Island 1.5 hours before and after low tide. If you stay on the island too long, you will be stranded until the next low tide or until you call a water taxi. There is a nice view of Bar Harbor from the summit but it’s nothing spectacular.

Summit was pretty. Pretty cool how at low tide you could pass!

It’s the perfect hike for a family with young ones. Quick, easy, and certainly unique. For more experienced hikers it’s just an interesting experience walking across a large sandbar. I enjoyed it, though there was no difficulty. The views pale in comparison to the other great Acadia hikes, but the sand bar trek makes it worth doing!

Short, mostly easy hike. Lots of rocks, so watch your footing. Very icy once you actually go up farther into the island! We had a couple close calls and one fall. Pretty shells and rocks on the sand bar.

Never knew that “bar” harbor was a sand bar! If you’re in the area, you must do it once. It’s the most tourist hike second to Cadillac. The views and such are (3) stars but the act of walking across the bar is literally awe-some.

As the other reviews “suggested” don’t go at high tide - impassable then. Short trail. Was foggy when we went so couldn’t see anything.

Nice overview of Bar Harbor. Hike is easy and relaxing. The water break is usually very crowded

Funny story about this walk. Things looked pretty dry as we started over and then entered the island. We hiked up to the top, about a half-mile. Lots of signs warning about the tides and keeping track of time. So we come back down the island path, which is very pretty and quiet. Actually it turned out to be very quiet since we were the last two people and a dog left on it. The tide was coming in and had cut off part of the bar closest to the island already. We were able to walk through the water holding the dog and make it back to a dry part of the bar no problem. But after about five more minutes it was remarkable how quickly so much of the bar had submerged. Definitely worth visiting this beautiful sight and walking across. Make sure you read all the signs. And if you’re the last person around on the island you should start to turn your walk into at least a slow jog.

Easy Walk. Good opportunity to teach the young ones about tides. Fun experience. Nice to venture into Bar Island and explore the ruins.

Lovely walk from bar harbor inlet across the sand bar to bar island with a nice view of Bar Harbor on Cadillac mountain at the end. I saw a beautiful downy woodpecker on my way. Wonderful place.

Great views of the harbor and it’s fun to walk across the low tide.

It is a beautiful trail but you can easily get lost because the trail is not well marked. Luckily the island is not that big so if you are lost, you are not lost for that long. You should be careful though because if you are on the island too long the tide may come up and you will be stuck there for about 9 hours unless you get a water taxi back to the land.

Pretty popular walk. I guess the appeal is walking across on low tide. Doesn't really do much for me. Views from the high point on the island are alright.

Very unique experience. We only did the part from Bar Harbor to Bar Island. Can get very windy. Lots of sea gulls to watch as you walk. A very easy walk.

A nice walk to do to get a different view of Bar Harbor from the island. Easy leisurely walk for pets & kids as well. As the tide changes, so cool to see the sea life & shells as you walk across the landbridge. A lot people doing the same thing but you dont get a crowded feel.

Was a nice little walk but that's about it. A lot of people. Nice to do really quick while walking to food.

Walking on water? well, sort of. this hike is more neat for the fact that you walk out across a sandbar to access Bar Island at low tide. Pretty unique, and an easy hike

I guess this would be a good hike but I forgot about the tide since I'm not from around here. The trail was under water. tried to make it out but the water was cold and rising.

take the less traveled wooded trail around the perimeter of the island that you see to the left as you come on to the island across the sandbar. a much more interesting hike, would highly recommend.
