If you are looking for a workout, this short steep trail is one of your best options in the Bangor area. Better yet, try carrying a toddler up it!

I was surprised by what I found here - IMO its not a wooded setting. The trail (not marked in any way that I could see) is basically a road to the comm towers on top. My GPS (Apple maps) did bring me to the right place, but no indication of a parking lot. You basically just pull up onto the rocks and park wherever, then on foot head ‘up’ the only visible dirt road. Turn left when you come to an intersection and shortly the road turns to solid rock. It is a STEEP hill, prob close to 30 degrees. The views are absolutely worth it, but just be prepared for an exposed (sunny) walk.

I get that it’s moderate because of its length but damn is that a workout!!

Steep hike for sure but the beautiful views made for a great excuse to stop and catch my breath... I mean... take some pictures :) My son and I tried to find the plane wreckage site but were unable to. We’ll be back for sure.

We climbed this last weekend, it is VERY steep but the footing was great. I don't think I would be comfortable hiking it with ice or if the rocks were wet. Amazing views but very disappointed that the loop trail at the top was not well marked. We will definitely be hiking there again!

Short and sweet. Steep AF. Beautiful views on the way up and at the top. But I think I enjoyed the views more on the way up to be honest. Plus it gives you an excuse to turn around and take some pictures while catching your breath, ha. The loop at the top isn’t worth it in my opinion. It’s not marked, and I wouldn’t attempt it without using the map on this app.

We did this one in early spring. There was still some snow but most ice was melted. There were pretty streams of water running down the trail. A short hike, but a worthwhile climb to get to some nice views! You can park off Atlantic Circle to avoid parking on the road if you like.

It’s March- the little ice left on the trail is easily avoidable- we never even put our spikes on. I love the view at the top!!

Frequently hike this trail. It’s short but a workout. Great for hiking and snowshoeing. Great views from the top as well!

A lovely view at the top! The loop around the top is not worth it. The best views are those you see once you get up there. If you do the loop use this app for every step!! The trail is not marked and often it's tricky to find the right path. It's a quick hike up and a lovely view to relax at.

Awesome hike, I would definitely suggest it for a good morning wake up workout! Definitely steep, and a harsh leg work out but it will be an awesome training spot! Will definitely be back in the future

The loop at the top is not well marked. As you can see from my map, I did some zig zagging before I decided to turn around

Steep hike to the “top” with a beautiful view as far as the eye can see on a clear day. Loop trail isn’t marked so you will want to have the map to follow. The loop has minimal incline and provides views; worth it! Nice quick trail. Finding the trail is tricky, google maps will send you to a gated fire lane. DIRECTIONS: follow Bald Mountain Road to Johnson Road. Johnson Road is marked as a dead end and parking is not far down. The trail starts immediately from the parking area and is almost instantly steep.
