Started from the Visitor Center (currently open Wed - Sun) and took the Palmetto Trail to the Bayou Coquille / Marsh Overlook Trail. The giant blue irises were in bloom! Saw several snakes, many small anoles, a turtle, and an alligator. The alligator was along the Kenta Canal on the Marsh Overlook portion of the trail. The total distance out to the overlook & back was about 4 miles.

Really cool swamp trail but a section was closed, preventing walking it as a loop, and another section was also completely flooded and impassable. I talked to a ranger that said it is actually a pond year round so unless you are prepared and geared up to wade 100-400 meters don’t be surprised if you have to turn back instead of completing it as a loop.

I did see a gator, deer, squirrels, and a couple pretty big snakes along the trail. Pretty decent wildlife viewing.

I went in December, a tough time to see gators, but the armadillos, amazing birds, and cool vegetation made it all worth the trip!

Beautiful trail! Much plants and wildlife to admire.
The many wild irises will be blooming soon.
If you are there and they are blooming, please post a review. I want to go back when they're in bloom!

Parking lot locks at 5. Park outside the gates if you wanna stay past 5pm.

Great trail. Well kept. They aren't kidding about the bugs!!! Wowzers! Bug spray did little to help. We saw two alligators (one in action as it caught and ate it's breakfast), a large frog, several birds, squirrels, etc. watch out for spiders... They are everywhere and if you go first thing when they open they aren't cleared off the trail yet. Got some great photos along the trail. Easy walk for beginning hikers but be sure to keep a close eye on little ones. The gators we saw were right off the trail and a mere foot away from us.

Great hike, with beautiful swamp views. Saw a couple snakes, but gators due to the bayou being choked out with vegetation.

Really nice and quiet. A lil wet from all the rain we just had but still worth the trip.

The park is free and the visitor center is worth a visit. There you can get a trail map and a list of nearby restaurants if you want to try some local food. We went in mid-November and say one little gator, a couple of snakes and two squirrels. The ranger said the canal is being overgrown with an exotic plant which is depriving the alligators of their native food so there are fewer of them to see.

Great place to see Louisiana wildlife and nature. Had never been to Louisiana before, so I really wanted to see some alligators. I saw at least 5 here, as well as snakes and bull frogs. It was beautiful and recommend it!

Walked several different trials here a few months ago with our children and it was beautiful! There is a variety of trials to chose from and lots of different wildlife to see. Gorgeous, huge trees to see on trials. We are definetly returning to this park soon.

Took our three kids (10, 6, and 2 years old) to this trail today. It was so beautiful! Literally two minutes on the trail and we were greeted by armadillo that came right up to us! We saw gators, lizards, a bald eagle, and a cotton mouth snake. It was such a great experience to see such an abundance of wildlife! We took the swamp walk trail from the parking lot and it was mostly Boardwalk through the swamp. Some of the boards were missing or damaged but as long as you're watching your step you'll be fine. Also I was very glad to have our 2 year old in a back pack carrier- the boardwalk would have made it a dangerous hike for the toddler to walk himself. We loved it and will definitely be back!!

We have seen so much wildlife along the trails here-- frogs, fish, crawfish chimneys, birds, lots of beautiful dragonflies & lizards, and one very entertaining raccoon giving a show to several visitors right near the center! It's a great little park for "non-hiker" visitors and kids, too-- the wooden walkway area is perfect for strollers. Very close & easy to get to from New Orleans.
