Keep in mind this is a “rails to trail” path, it’s in an urban area. You are not taking a hike on a secluded, vista filled path. If you understand what it means to have an urban path you will love this walk or bikeway. Very flat, low stress street crossings and Bayou St John is a city treasure that not enough tourists see, which this path leads you straight into. Like any urban trek you should keep your wits about you and even though it’s urban it’s through residential areas and areas that are generally pretty sparse of people during night time. I would be careful and wary of using this trail when it’s dark.

Ok - so if you are just trying to get off the city streets in New Orleans this is a nice paved, flat, straight trail. That’s where the good ends. There is no scenery and getting there from downtown (I stayed at the Hilton Riverside) was a bit scary. I would not run on this trail or travel to this trail alone. I got about 5 miles in on the actual trail.
