Cypress Creek Trail is a 1 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Ferriday, Louisiana that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and bird watching.
Leaving from the refuge headquarters, this out-and-back trail features signs with interesting facts about the local wildlife such as wood ducks, cottonmouths, white-tailed deer and woodpeckers. The trail joins with a boardwalk that takes hikers to a large bald-cypress tree and observation deck over the bayou. In that area, benches provide an excellent spot to bird watch or listen to the sounds of nature.
Interesting hike through bayou area on a palmetto lined path. Path is good to the boardwalk but narrows up and gets a little buggy after that.
This is a nice trail in the Bayou Cocodrie NWR. There are two other trails. one is maybe a half mile long (roundtrip) and leads to an observation deck looking over the marshes/wetlands. And the other is approximately three miles. We haven't done the three mile trail, but the other two are great for bringing small ones on a short day hike (you can do both in one day). All three trails are out and backs. I don't have any pics, but I can post some later when that area dries up enough to hike it.
