Getting There

Rock Bridge Trail is one of the most scenic trails in Red River Gorge, including the arch (the "rock bridge") for which the trail is named, and a beautiful waterfall on the way to the arch. Highlights include rich vegetation, hiking alongside a creek for much of the the trail, a natural arch that actually spans the creek at the apex of the trail, a scenic waterfall, a small clearing for picnicing, and an access point to other trails in Red River Gorge. The trail is perfect in good weather, beautiful in all weather, but can be muddy/slippery in rain and snow. Trailhead located at the end of a 3 mile gravel road.

From Louisville, take I-64 East to Winchester, then Mountain Parkway East to Slade (exit 33). Take 15 East or South down to Pine Ridge, left on 715, and a little log-cabin ranger station, along with a sign, marks the gravel road to get to the trailhead.

Nice trail. Beautiful Woodlands. Nice creek views. Did the loop and the extra mile+ "string". The last 1/4 mile of the "string" was kinda - meh! If you stop this one at the falls overlook, you won't miss much. The whole thing clocked about 5-1/2 miles including a couple of off-trail side trips.

The trail was nice to walk, however, when my husband and I went it was very crowded. I enjoy solitude and hiking trails without people. If you're a lone hiker, this one is not for you.

The trail is well marked and easy to follow. Unfortunately at the time I went the trail was slippery and crowded.

My Garmin tracked this hike to be exactly 2 miles from our car and back. It was quiet the first half as we started our hike around 940am. The people kept piling in while we were on our way out. The waterfall was beautiful, the streams were shallow enough to cross. The arch was fabulous, we climbed up and took photos. The hike back was at an incline resulting in my needing a break. Great little hike for our last day of hiking this long weekend.

Loves this trail! We went counterclockwise. It has a cave/highwall which was neat. A really cool waterfall, that I wish I could have crossed the water to get to the lower area... I just didn't want wet socks and shoes. the Rock Bridge is really cool, too. The river flows through it, so it is different that most of the other natural bridges in the Red River Gorge. Very Cool!

Short hike, heavily traveled, lots of asphalt, but loaded with features. Worth it for the waterfall and rock bridge!

This was my favorite trail out of our 5 today. BEAUTIFUL! Very shaded and cool. It was crowded but worth it! Absolutely perfect for kids ages 3-99! Saw lots of dogs. The arch over the water is so neat and the falls were flowing very well. Recommend highly! Nice picnic areas above trailhead.
