First mile is very steep uphill. Trail is mostly made up of loose rock. The views and wild flowers were pretty. I wouldn't take young children on it, but it was a nice challenge.

Pretty good. The beginning is a little awkward as you start in a valley with a lot of bugs/some weeds on the path, but once you get up to some elevation, the trail widens, you cross a nice little bridge, and find what I would assume to be nice views if it wasn’t summer (dense trees = lots of leaves).

This was a great hike. The trail was clear and very easy to follow. There was a lot of uphill but that just made the return trip much easier. The title is slightly misleading. There isn’t a lot of lake view on this trail due to all of the trees and leaves. You get very minor views of the water.

It was a beautiful day for a hike. There were some muddy spots and few logs across the trail that we had to climb over, but well marked and nice trail. Make sure you start your hike down the road from the parking lot not on the access rod across from the parking lot. We picked up some ticks on this hike that we found on the ay home so make sure you spray before you hike.

Great trail. You can connect with the Sheltowee from the ranger station. Best in late fall, warm winter day, or early spring, as the leaves are sparse and the views better. Pretty good climb up to the ridge from either end.

Really fun trail. We went after a rainy day and the trail was still in nice shape. Great views with a little work to see them. I think in the summer the views would be harder to see. Great hike in a beautiful area!

Stopped at this trail to break up a road trip. Was a perfect break. Challenging without being too difficult. Pretty clear trail and not muddy considering the recent rain. Pretty views of the lake at the top of the first climb and along most of the ridge!

Pretty steep incline. It was not a leisurely stroll, definitely a workout getting up & down. You could see the lake from the top but a lot of trees were in the way. Getting down was a little tricky as rocks & leaves covered the steep decline. We were worried about slipping. There were a few muddy spots but overall it was fine.

Great trail. Maintained very well and wide in most parts. Once you make it to the ridge line the views of the lake and dam are beautiful, especially when the leaves are off.

Short but pleasant. Easy. No great view at the top but a lot of beautiful nature along the way. Trailhead is hard to find and easy to miss.

Not much to see during July. You can see the Lake and Dam once you get to the ridge. It was a little weedy. Check for ticks frequently. I found two on me halfway up. We parked in the wildlife area and walked to the trail. This app did A great job and was very accurate. Once you get to the end you can hangout where Big Limestone Trail and and a path that leads to the Visitor Center and take a little break. Ps. Mountain bikers use this path. Be aware of your surroundings.

This is a nice trail. The trailhead is a bit hard to find, though it is accurately marked on the map here. If you park in the wildlife viewing area, you can access it off the forest road across the road. The actual trailhead parking is back toward town a little ways, but has limited parking. The trail starts boring to be honest, but once you cross the bridge over the creek, it gets much better. The climb up to the ridge is a pretty good climb if you are not used to this type of hike. Once on the top you get some good views of the river and surrounding area as you hike the ridge. At least I did in early spring, I imagine once the trees leaf out, that view is gone. To be fair, I did not hike this entire trail, but pretty close. I chose to find a quiet spot off the trail and enjoy being in the woods. It was pretty quiet, except for the occasional car passing on KY801 below you. It doesn't look that close, but you can almost always hear the traffic. So why did I only give it 4 stars? This is a nice hike on a 4 mile trail with very few others on it, and it is well maintained. But there isn't much to see. If you like green tunnels this is a 5. If you like vistas, this is a 3. I averaged it and made it a 4.

A pleasant and clearly marked trail with enjoyable terrain. We walked this trail when the trees were in full leaf. As a result, the views of Cave Run Lake were quite limited though an early spring or late fall hike may offer a better view. Be sure to take bug or tick repellent.
