Indian Staircase to Cloudsplitter is a 5.2 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Campton, Kentucky that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until November. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This hike involves walking along Red River Road to get back to the parking lot. The trail and rock scrambling up may be difficult, but it is definitely achievable and well worth reaching the top. There are tons of camping spots on top of Indian staircase and several through the entire trail.
Muddy, and too slick to get on top of cloudsplitter, but still a beautiful hike. Some of the best views in RRG.
Awesome views!!!!! You could go to Indian Staircase from the back and avoid the dangerous climb. Cloudsplitter is optional. There was a rope tied to a tree which made the climb doable. Even without doing Indian Staircase and Cloudsplitter this trail is worth it for the views!
My son helped me a bit on the Indian Staircase portion, and the view at the top was definitely
Awesome hike! Trails were muddy and slippery in late December hence the 4 star rating. The views atop cloud splitter are top notch!!!
Pretty long trail and quite rough but the view is completely worth it
I was a bit hesitant about going up the "staircase" but the footholds notched into the rock are just good enough to slowly climb up to the top. Once up the view is gorgeous and the trail goes on. Glad you don't have to go back down the staircase! I definitely wouldn't recommend after a rain. Multiple points to look out and get photo ops as the trail progresses along the ridge and eventually back down. We did this trail our last day as we were leaving the RRG. Glad we did!!
Beautiful views from the top of both peaks. Cloud splitter is tricky but worth the work.
Amazing. You should definitely try it out. Make sure to follow what the map tells you
This was a great day of hiking not to bad unless you are scared of heights. I did some add on trails one was really just a campsite at the end no real view and the other was a great hike up pretty steep but with a dog and an old rope at the top to climb the last part i wasn’t chancing it. This “view” would be great tho if it was a little more accessible. With a better rope or maybe some metal steps.
