There is more to Mammoth Cave than the cave itself! This hike is a beautiful walk in the forest - I've done it many times.

Nice way to enter the trail system around the Mammoth Cave NP Visitor Center. It takes you down to a pretty view of the Green River and the River Styx Spring. It also passes the Historic cave entrance.

This is a lovely area where you can even put up a hammock right up the hill from the cave entrance. You can feel the breeze and listen to the water fall. Lovely!

Fun, short hike. Very pretty in winter. The trail system at Mammoth Cave is lovely.

My husband and I went on New Years Day 2016. It was lovely even in winter and you can really see the nice views with the leaves off the trees. I want to return in the spring and see the wild flowers in bloom.

really nice to do- just 15 minutes from the Visitor Center- has some views of the Green River and just off the river, along the banks of one of its tributaries, are stands of huge sycamores, about 15 feet in circumference. (see photos)

Starting from the trailhead it's a long descent through lush green woods over many wooden bridges and walkways. Gorgeous scenery. Near the end you should see the spring coming out from an underground cave and also see the River Styx. You can loop back a different way up a paved road which takes you by the main cave entrance where, after a humid uphill climb, you can stand over the cave entrance and cool off from its natural air conditioning! We saw deer along the way.

Short, pleasant hike that connects with other short trails. Up and down. Take a map.

The trail is easy to walk but I would describe it was moderate because of the nearly half mile uphill return. The thing to do is couple this trail with a short subterranean hike into the nearby historic entrance to Mammoth Cave.

Out and back trail in Mammoth Cave National Park. It starts from the Visitor's Center and leads down to the Green River. A spur leads over to the River Styx Spring which empties from the cave system into the Green River.
