Loop trail the follows Cave Run Lake before turning inward and connecting into the Sheltowee Trace trail. Following the Sheltowee Trace will return you back to your starting point at Stoney Cove. Caney Run starts at the Stoney Cove Recreation Area. This path curves and winds along the shores of Cave Run Lake, offering extensive lake views before it turns up the Caney Creek embayment, where more views await. From here, it rejoins the Sheltowee Trace and winds over low hills that stand between quiet creeks and returns to Stoney Cove.

Decent trail it is open to horses so there's a lot of bogs from the horses. 10 mile loop with the new part including part of the shendowee trace. What bothered me more was at the horse tie up there were a lot of garbage left behind and several beer cans along the trail. Beautiful along the lake area.

The area is very pretty, with views of the lake. But, it was absolutely destroyed from horses riding the trail. The horse tracks made it impossible to actually walk on the trail, which resulted in trying to walk on the sides of the trail and/or through the woods. Would have been an easy hike otherwise. Also, came out covered in seed ticks. Highest amount of ticks of all of the many trails I've hiked this year.

Nice trail, and views of the Cave Run Lake.

Great trail, though horses have clearly been on it when they're restricted from it (until mid-May) and so they've made the soft, muddy sections really a mess. Mountain bikers, too, complain, but it's clearly marked no biking so they've no one but themselves to blame. It's clearly NOT suitable for that. But a great hike with some elevation and excellent trail marking. Could use some trail maintenance to remove fallen trees across the trail

The first half of this trail is best with the lake views.

Agree with some other comments related to the condition of the trail due to horse traffic, but overall, it is not too bad.

We covered the entire loop in about 4 hours with some snack stops.

trail it self has some pretty views of lake, but like others said, its used as a horse trail, lots of muddy spots to bush wack around and poop to avoid stepping in.

One word describes it all-DON'T. This is the worst trail I've ever been on. According to AllTrails it is a multi use trail. It became very evident that the trail is actually a dedicated horse trail. I wouldn't recommend it for hikers either.

Nice loop trail in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Part of the trail (Caney Run) follows Cave Run Lake and eventually connects to the Sheltowee Trace trail. Used by hikers, mountain bikers, and horses. The Sheltowee Trace section shows considerable damage from horse and bike use. (not criticizing, just stating facts)

Trail is nice in the fall with the changing colors.

Beautiful trail. We took the wrong loop and ended up going 12.5 miles. Oops. Lots of mud and horse muck to dodge.

This was a great trail. It's perfect if you want a view of Cave Run Lake and there is lots of tree cover for shade. It took a little longer than 4.5 hours, more like 6 hours if you include breaks. The only downside is that there is a lot of horse travel on this trail, so there is a lot of horse poop you have to navigate around. There is also more litter than I cared to see on a nature hike. It needs to be maintained a little better.
