Buttermilk Falls is a 3.4 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Brandenburg, Kentucky that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and mountain biking.
This is a really fun hike with waterfalls! Bridges are lined with grip strips, and lots of picnics tables. Definitely good for a family hike!
Lots of parking available.
this trail is a perfect "quick getaway" into the woods. the best part is that there's terrain for every ability level. honestly I would even consider this route to be ADA accessible for a majority of the trail. entering from the hwy 933 side: parking lot near the power station, short paved walk to both trail heads. once you hit the trail heads the right side is what I would consider "ADA accessible" the trail is hard pack crushed limestone. easy enough to push a wheelchair or a stroller. you can take this path about 1.5 miles into the trail until you come to a large wooden bridge. the left side is more rugged and hilly with plenty of elevation changes and some small creek crossings at about the 1.5 mile you'll hit a changing clearing and a small shelter where you'll find the waterfall. there is a small winding creek and a bridge built up over, or you can take the lower part of the trail and jump across.
This is a fully paved 10 ft. wide walking path. Not exactly a thrilling hike. The 2 early waterfalls on the side of the trail are pretty good, the 2nd one (about 0.5 miles in) is actually Buttermilk Falls, even though it is not marked at all. Continuing on the trail leads to Eckertt Falls, although it was very dry in the fall. Might be a nice trail when the leaves change colors, or after a lot of rain.
Nice Family hike. Paved road almost the entire way. Buttermilk Falls is off the paved road (I think) and the falls in the pictures is Emmert Falls (take AllTrails oath or it lollipops as well. Bring bug spray if bugs bother you
The trail to the falls is great. Lots of mosquitos though so bring bug spray. The paved path was nice but was more of a walking path than trail. During the week the construction sounds does take away from the nature but assuming that wouldn’t be an issue on the weekend
We were looking for our first place to take a hike here in KY. Thanks to this App, Buttermilk Falls was our choice since it was pretty close to home. It was a very nice, paved trail except the part back to Emmert Falls but still was an easy walk. All the other hikers were friendly and courteous. Plenty of benches and portajohns. I was pleasantly surprised that we only had to pick up a couple pieces of trash left behind by others.
Easy mostly level trail. The map at the trailhead is in reverse, if you are parked by the little amphitheatre, you will come to Buttermilk Falls first by the red brick building which is more like run off and not much of a falls.
