Great terrain, but the path is too narrow for hikers and bikers to share.

I rode the orange trail and there were roots and rocks everywhere. I'm a beginner so perhaps that is why I didn't like it. Good workout but not flowing.

I really enjoyed this trail, if you’re looking to do the 6.5 mile loop I suggest starting at Shelter 8 and then going to Walnut Grove, the signs are easier to follow that way. The violet trail consists of 3 loops (2.85, 1, and .7 miles) and a connector (.76miles) so you can change up your length and/or direction. Part of the violet trail is also equestrian so there is some poop to watch out for. I went on a Sunday late afternoon and it was pretty busy but then I also went Tuesday and Wednesday after work and the trails weren’t too busy. It is very rocky, there are some roots sticking out and some fallen trees (makes for a more interesting hike in my opinion) also various inclines. I’d suggest bringing water, especially in the heat and there is a nozzle on the connector that you can refill. Lastly it does close when/after it rains to avoid damaging the trails so be aware of that.

Great trail, but you might want gloves for your vibrations. Otherwise great views if you’re looking for a challenge.

Why is this version of orange, violet, and red labeled as a 6.5mi course? I completed this map as marked here (even the portion of red trail that no longer exists. Completely overgrown and hard to follow leading up to the access road from the north) and my watch says ~9.5mi? Love these trails for running however.

I've done the Orange and Violet routes for trail running many times, and have always found them enjoyable and less difficult than WYCO. This was my first time back in 2020, and decided to hike the entire Mountain Biking trail network. Skipping a few interconnects, this worked out to be a 10-11 mile loop. I started with the upper side of the Orange loop, took the right edge of Violet, hiked the Red loop CCW, branching off for a CCW hike of the Gold Trail (is this new?), finished out Violet, then completed the lower half of Orange back to the start by the parking lot. With how destroyed the 10 mile Bridle trail around WYCO Lake is from Equestrian use, I would argue this is the BEST day hike you can do within 2 hours of Kansas City. There were a couple muddy patches on Red and Violet from rain and bikers, but the trails were in great shape. I spotted fewer than 10 pieces of trash the whole time. I strongly encourage any hiker or backpacker to check this out, especially the gold and red loops. I will be taking a loaded pack next weekend, and probably tack on the South shore trail as well for a 15+ mile shakedown hike before doing weekend overnighters closer to the Ozarks.

The orange, violet, and red trails seem to be of similar difficulty for mtb. Quite technical overall. Large, angular rocks and softball-size loose rocks can make for a challenge. Markers are confusing if you’re a first timer. There are a few flowing sections that provide a nice break. One of those trails where the more times you ride it the better it gets.

I'm giving this a 5-star based on it being an urban environment and it's one of the better, long "hikes" you can get in the KC Metro. Even on a nice spring day, the mountain bike trails weren't super busy, it wasn't very muddy and for the most part you didn't feel like you were in the city. There's some elevation, and you want decent shoes as it can be rocky in places, but this is a great option within the city if you don't want to drive too far.

Great trail, fairly busy closer to trailhead but less so at the back. The connector to avoid the “red trail variant” on the northeast side of the map actually does not exist (or at least we could not find) so you will have to do the “variant” portion which will make hike longer.

Sendero agradable para compartir en familia. el naranja es fácil algo rocoso, hay que estar precavidos con los ciclistas. Vokveremos para terminar con los otros senderos. ojala hubiese lugar para descansar y tomar una merienda.
