Note: No dogs or bikes allowed on this trail. This trail takes you through the timber lined banks of Kings creek before entering the rolling Flint Hills tall grass prairie. Much of this land was part of the Dewey Ranch. Buffalo roam the prairie. A trail guide is available at the trailhead that describes key points and geography of the Flint hills prairie. The trail is lined with limestone pea gravel or follows a service road that is either bare dirt or limestone gravel.

Awesome Kansas hike. Rolling green hills with wildflowers and a few shallow creek crossing. Highly recommend.

Great Trail with a couple of steep inclines. Nice views throughout. Limited shaded areas so I’d recommend a hat, water source, and sunscreen.

This trail was a lot of fun. A really wide open space with very little shade cover. But the views are amazing.

Really good trail..Some shade with water features. Steep long climbs with flat overview lookout. Great views!

Great trail with longer and shorter options. We went clockwise on Kings Creek, 4.6 loop. Will definitely do again. NO DOGS or BIKES.

Recommended for anyone that wants a good get away for a short period. I hiked at a moderate pace and completed the trail, with detours, in just over 2 hours. It’s really pretty out there.

Beautiful prairie with well-marked trail. Went clockwise & enjoyed view :)

Cruising across Kanas and stopped for a hike in this amazing preserve. No dogs, so we walked him along the car road. The creek was full of birds. Their songs were amazing. Worth the 8min detour from the Interstate!

Hiked this one as part of a larger loop including the 2 north-south sections. Great hike to just take your time on and enjoy the sounds of the grass blowing in the breeze.

Great trail for a nice hike. High-grade incline toward the beginning, so take your time going up if needed—but it leads to great views of the prairie. Middle of the 3 trails; great views of the prairie’s flora and landscape. No real shaded areas until the returning portion of the trail. Don’t forget water!!

Well marked trail. Sections where the grass and bramble are over grown on the path. So bug spray on the legs is key. There are large sections of exposed trail but it is the prairie so it’s to be expect. Some very steep sections even though the overall elevation is pretty small. Great place to see an untouched nature reserve. Saw turkeys, butterflies, frogs, grasshoppers. Please don’t bring dogs as it destroys the natural ecosystem and they’ll have to close the trail to the public since it is an active research facility.

Hot and awesome

Great trail with great views. Lots of cool wildlife including turkey, deer, and buffalo. I caught it after the yearly burn and the new grass coming up made the landscape look amazing. I would recommend this trail if you are looking for a little challenge going up and down in elevation all along the hike.

Very beautiful trail, and well maintained, though farther you go the less maintained it is, but thats part of the fun! A little steep at times but worth the work to -trail- it. No dogs or bikes on the trail, and must stay on the trail as conservation and research are done off of it. Lots of wild life and very scenic sites. Really recommend if looking for a bit of elevation difference in Kansas.

The trail itself is very well maintained, pretty views (for Kansas only though) pretty easy to do. Beware of the people that manage the place. They aren’t very friendly or welcoming.
