In the tall grass prairie the Alcove Spring trails preserve the California and Oregon trail stop in much the same condition as it was in 1842 when members of the Donner party named the spring. Situated in around 300 acres there are still around 5 miles of trails not documented but can be found on the maps at the entrance.

One of my favorite places to hike. Lots of turkeys and deer...plenty of places to stop and take in the view. Just don’t forget to bring bug spray!

This is a very well kept area. Very cool to see the history tied in with the Oregon Trail.

First, for a low traffic site, it is maintained first rate, very impressed. Several interlocking trails. Great spring with pioneer name inscribed, wagon tracks in a number of locations. I consider this a destination hike.
