Much of the trial is pretty easy, though some switchback and hills reach moderate-hard. The SW portion near the trout hatchery has assessable fishing spots on the trout stream. The Decorah Eagles nest just off the trail and their nest is visible from the trail.

Actually, my family and I did this trail on rollerblades, though I imagine it would be great for biking. The trail is nice, though hillier than one would expect Iowa to be, and it does not offer much shade coverage. If you go out on a hot day, bring lots of water. The fishery is a really interesting stop as you’re going along—I thought it was neat to see. Afterwards, have a nice meal in the downtown, and even stop by Luther College and take a quick tour about the beautiful campus.

Fun loop around a beautiful town. The eastern half (from town, around the hills, ends at the fish hatchery and eagles nest) is relatively flat and requires minimal effort, but still gives you a nice view of the area. The western half (fish hatchery, multiple hills and switchbacks, through the cut and along the river) requires much more effort but is definitely worth it. Beautiful ride can be had on both halves.

Take a virtual bike ride around it in two minutes:
