The trail is short but steep. From the lower parking area you begin with a section of metal stairs that are well kept. The path then continues uphill. After a rain the path may be difficult and slick. When you reach the top, a short traverse along a parking area will take you to the paved path that leads to the monument. You then reverse course to return to the parking area.

It was a moderate hike up from the bottom. Great monument at the top to honor Mr. Dubuque. Excellent views of the Mississippi as well.

Simple walk to the monument on the hill. If you not able to walk this trail the road takes you to a paved path to the monument from on top.

Beautiful views and quick hike. It’s steep in areas but was able to complete with our 4 year old and 1.5 year old in the pack.

Super short trail but great view over rail road and Mississippi River. Good knowledge on history though ;)

I was passing through Dubuque and wanted a short hike. I drove up to the parking lot and it was a short beautiful walk on a paved walkway to the monument and overlook. I would recommend it for the elderly or small children to view the Mississippi. There were steps leading downhill for more trail but I didn't have time. it was a lovely spot.

From the lower parking lot up to the monument is a fine climb through forest along the edge of steep hills. The trail is wide and easy to walk, so all the difficulty comes in the vertical climb. The worst parts have stairs. The view at the top is spectacular, but there is a parking lot at the top so don't expect an isolated pinnacle. Two large families were there when I hiked up, so the beautiful view had a commotion next to it.

Beautiful view from Julien monument but watch out on the roads down below for the water treatment plants that are a bit smelly if you get stuck walking around them.

This is a short trail that climbs from the parking area to the monument. You could always drive up to the monument, but where is the fun in that? From the lower parking area you first climb some metal stairs, and then continue to climb up the ravine to the upper parking area. From there it is a short walk down a paved path to the small "castle" monument. You cannot go inside the castle, but the view of the river and of Dubuque from the monument is spectacular.
