Nestled in the rolling hills of southwest Iowa, Viking Lake is a perfect setting for recreation. The park's campground is located between the arms of the lake, which provide lakeshore access to many of the campsites. A sandy swimming beach welcomes swimmers and the concession/restaurant is the perfect place for a refreshing snack or meal. Rent a paddleboat for a trip around the lake or a pontoon boat for a more leisurely outing. Pack up your familys favorite lunch and enjoy a shady picnic area where you can play on a playground, fish or enjoy the lovely view.

I took my new Fat Tire bike out in the evening, This trail would be good for uphill mountain bike practice. there some long steep hills. No downhill here! Very wide grassy and gravel type of trails. Once you start in the trail you can take other smaller trails once you start inside. Go before 7pm, so you are not out on these trails when it starts getting dark. this trail gets so dark it swallows light. safe tho, even after dark. On a Fat Tire bike it's easy but ebike style would be more fun, help with the hills. lots of room to park your car and room to put your bike rim on. I start at boat ramp, then either go left or right, you ending point is different. seen all kinds of kayaks out here on the lake.

This trail is well-demarcated, treed and easy. There is plenty of flora and fauna and subtle beauty abounds. There are places to rest. Part of the trail on the west side of the lake has numbered signs that makes me think there is a trail map, but I didn't find any at the campsite. Lovely place for a peaceful hike!
