The trail is always awesome. Shout out to CITA for their incredible response to the downed trees. In less than 2 weeks the trail has gone Fromm 100% impassable to 100% open. Well done.

For the most part, well maintained. A few downed trees across the hiking trails.

Good work out. Humid. No mosquitoes. Was worried about being in the way of bikers, but only saw 2 and was able to get out of their way quickly. Still don’t know where I’m going yet... lol- but was a nice explore today.

Great city nature park/hike! Tons of chipmunks running around! Not a ton of great views, but very beautiful foliage surrounding the whole trail. It was a bit confusing staying on the trail, because there are many side paths, but since it’s a city trail, you could easily follow any and end up close to a road. Trail well maintained except for a short part that was a bit confusing. Definitely worth going to! And lots of shade for summer walks/hikes!

We had a great time. The paved trails are shaded and very nice. We found some challenging unpaved trails to explore with the kids. We will definitely come back.

Liked how the trail was secluded despite being in the heart of Des Moines. However, this trail is probably better suited for mountain bikers than pedestrians, as we encountered several mountain bikers (who appeared very quickly in some instances). Most were accommodating to us but a few acted annoyed that we were walking in their space.

Trails are marked better on ashworth side then greenwood side so I ended up off trail a bit, but nice trails and easy to follow. Quiet on this cold snowy morning! Lots of deer sightings.

Attempted to find all of the trails marked in the app & failed. Some are no longer there (evidenced by portions of old concrete trail that has since washed out). Ground frozen in the early morning, suggest ankle support due to deep frozen ruts in the trail - potential ankle-breakers.

Early morning hike while the ground is still frozen. Unintentionally found myself going off-trail, there was small but slightly treacherous ravine that I crossed on fallen trees. Invigorating little walk.

Highly recommend this trail to anyone looking for a moderate trail within the DSM metro. No snow & pretty muddy right now, particularly on the Roller Coaster portion of the trail, so plan accordingly.

I've been playing on this trail for 20 years and it's seen some huge improvements in the last 5. Make sure you're paying attention to other traffic on the trail. People are hauling ass on the downslopes or struggling with climbs. Check out the conditions on Center Trails page before heading there.

I just hiked here for a third time. It's very fun. It's much more rustic than you would expect in the middle of a city. I extended the loop on the N end and surely went 3 miles but will record next time. We finished at 7:15 pm. We saw 8 deer, a groundhog, rabbits, ground squirrels, a cardinal.
