Fun walk with the dogs. Especially rewarding view of the lake and a cool walk down the sand hill to the beach. The park service rates this as strenuous but if say moderate, even for the inexperienced hiker.

It was difficult to navigate to the trail from Dunewood Campgrounds. The park in general is super bike friendly. However, if wanting to hike the entirety of Indiana National Lakeshore (Now Park!) prepare to hike along the highway. We lucked out and got to hike up the Summit trail with a Ranger since the trail is currently closed due to conservation efforts.

I wouldn’t consider it a “hard” trail. It’s got a moderate uphill grade, wide rounded dune trail, not rocky. A lot of sun - very little shaded areas. It was very, very buggy in the beginning. Literally had to walk through a swarm of little (knats?). Bring /wear repellant.

Before the accidents that took place with the sink holes, as a kid growing up in the area I've climbed up Mt Baldy more times than I can remember. Hoenslty, the climb up was never fun, but the run down was great! ha. You used to be able to climb on the steep dune side. Now there is a guided hike around and up the side.

I took this trail at sunset via guided hike, and it was well worth it! the views are phenomenal! Watch for poison ivy, which is prolific.

The trail has reopened and leads to the lakeshore.

You can still go onto this trail with guided hikes. They have them on the weekends and they also have sunset ones. I found it on the dunes website.

Closed indefinitely due to 2 deaths from natural sinkholes on the dune itself.

The trail has been closed since July, 2013 and will remain closed through the 2014 season due to safety concerns. Please visit nearby Central Beach for beach access and a fairly easy but pleasant walk through the woods from the parking lot. If you're in the area to hike, Cowles Bog Trail has it all--bring water!

The hilliest section of Allen County and Fort Wayne. This is a nice 1 hour hike.
