McCloud Nature Trails is a 5.4 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Roachdale, Indiana that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Located inside McCloud Nature Park, owned by the Hendricks County Parks Department. About 6 miles of unpaved but well marked trails. None are difficult.
Really well maintained trails, no mud, nice gravel and grass throughout.
Nice easy trails, mostly mown with a few dirt abs gravel. We enjoyed the quiet and there were lots of trails to chose from. We’ll be back.
snow was 8-12" deep, some trails had not been walked on. lots of deer tracks and scat.
Enjoyed the sound of crunching snow under my feet. Some trails I was the first human footprint to follow the deer, birds and racoons.
We escaped from the Indy today and hiked this hidden gem. The first thing we noticed was the quiet. You don't realize how loud the city is until you're not in it. Say 4 varieties of woodpecker today and a brief fox sighting. Only 2 other trail users. No masks required... Ha.
Awesome little park hidden in Hendricks County. Well maintained trails and the little guy loved getting in Big Walnut Creek. Could get real muddy, but was great today. Thanks to the Hendricks County Park District for this gem of a park and trails!
Fantastic park! A bunch of little trails that are easily connected to hike up to 6 miles. There’s a creek to play in and plenty of benches to journal/eat lunch on. I went in a Sunday and only ran into 3 other people. There are 24/7 restrooms and a water bottle filling station. Trails are mostly grass or gravel. It’s a pretty accessible park
This place is a hidden gem! Lots of snakes & bugs, though. Bring bug spray!
45 minutes from down town indy, moderately traffics, some shaded areas but a lot of open grasses, areas to dip in the creek with floaties.
This trail was beautiful! Lots of side trails to peruse and beautiful landscapes to see. I loved walking on the ridges. TONS of bugs though. They drove me crazy the entire time I was here. I needed a nice trail to clear my head and this one was perfect besides that :) Leisurely with maybe three hills that get your heart rate up for a minute. Great for dogs! Not too busy and I came on a Saturday. Only passed a few people on the back trails, most of them were right by the creek where you can get in. I wore sandals and was fine :) Slightly midday because it’s been raining for a few days but not bad at all. Will be back - with bug spray!!
Trail was mostly well maintained. We've had some extreme winds recently and there was some obvious blow down because of it. One path was blocked completely but we were able to go around the tree blocking the path. Overall the trail is pretty simple and mostly flat. There were only about 3 major hills. The scenery was nice but a bit boring in my opinion. It did offer several different types of views though from wooded areas to grassy plains.
Really nice trail and well-maintained. Easy walking and fun things to see with the creek and wildlife. Did it with two kids under five, and they had fun by the creek.
Beatiful hike at dusk in one of my favorite parks in central Indiana. Probably the last nice day of the year
