Extremely muddy in some parts, but always passable. Lots of ticks on us by the time we got to the lake. Lots of other campers, but the campsite was worth having neighbors!

Holy. Freaking. Ticks. Never seen it that bad out on this trail! We bailed on backpacking bc we were COVERED in the little itty bitty ticks.

Good long trail, super well marked, long but not strenuous! We are good hikers and it took just over 3hrs! Lovely lake view. But lots of trees down :( because of the tempest this last week

Very muddy. Beautiful camp setup on the peninsula, but unfortunately past campers had left behind a lot of litter. Camping on the peninsula can be very windy (it was for us, at least!), so pack appropriately.

March 15, 2020. 42 degrees. The trail was pretty muddy in some spots due to recent rains, but that's to be expected. There was major wind damage just as you enter the actual peninsula portion of the trail, which reduced the beauty of the forest considerably -- lots of sycamore trees down. I'm not sure how long ago the damage occurred, but was obviously sometime after my last hike of this trail a year and a half ago. Trail is well worn and easy to follow. There are a few marked campsites along the trail, but the majority are along the lakefront. If anyone has questions about this trail or any other trail I've done, feel free to contact me at selectfirem4 at yahoo dot com.

March 15, 2020 hiking with my husband. This is a good trail but very muddy in a lot of places . In this one area a lot of trees have been cut down on both sides of the trail. The lake is so pretty at the end though.

Be ready to get your feet muddy. We enjoyed hiking out to winter camp at one of the sites on the tip of the peninsula. Saw a beautiful sunset. There were a ton of already established campsites. Definitely want to go back when it’s warm enough to swim in the lake!

My advice is to hike this when the ground is frozen or there hasn’t been any rain for several weeks. Good place to observe the effects of foot travel, horses, and probably motor vehicles on native woodland. Those things combined with natural forces of erosion have created ruts deeper than I am tall. Nice ridge top hike with some nice views of Lake Monroe. Inspiring tall pine groves.

Great trail with fantastic lake views and campsites on the peninsula. Mostly flat with elevation dropping as you approach the end of the peninsula. Trail was in good condition.

Beautiful fall colors. Nice views of forested valleys when hiking along the ridge. The gravel road to access this trail is rough and the portion east of the trail head had some fresh rock deposited that beat up the car undercarriage.

Hiked in yesterday for a weekend of camping. Trail is clear and easy to navigate. Disappointed in the amount of trash around the camp sites...abandoned tent, sleeping bag, clothing, plastic bottles, and misc wrappers. Still the best sunset around!

I used to love this trek, but the absolute mess left by boaters has ruined a lot of it. Most of the campsites are trashed with plastic bottles, abandoned tents, clothing, etc. I carried out a full bag of trash, but it didn't make a dent. Found an abandoned tent expecting to find a dead guy inside (nope). I'll pick up anything except toilet paper and tampon applicators (ladies).
