Green Trail is a 6.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Indianapolis, Indiana that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
The green trail was a flooded mess. Ankle deep water and mud in places.
It’s mileage. The resivoire was pretty, and the high way was noisy. Some elevation changes but mostly flat. Plenty of people, even when the high was 30.
If there’s been precipitation recently, plan on areas with standing water that will be difficult to navigate without getting your feet wet. While this is not the most scenic route Eagle Creek has to offer, it is very flat. Portions run close to the interstate so it can be noisy. Overall, the areas in the woods are nice for a fast, flat run (or hike), but the portions between the wooded areas can be uneven because of the cycle of moisture to mud to dry.
starting training on this trail because I will be racing it on February 22. 2020. I'm a beginner to running... and I need to get my 4hr time down to an hour and a half. but this trail pushed me to my limits.....
Michael and I went hiking today. We started on the Green Trail but what we didn’t anticipate was how buggy it would be due to the rain we received Wednesday night. The first mile and a half was pretty miserable because of all the mosquitos and we wended up having to leave the trail and walk on the road because the bugs were so bad. While this was disappointing, it taught us an important lesson - that you can’t foresee everything you might encounter on the trail and you might need to think on your feet. Because we were on pavement the hike ended up being more about talking and keeping a steady pace, so I still count it as a successful day!
Portions of green trail share the same footprint as orange trail on the south and blue trail on the north. The north-south leg of the trail are within a few yards of I-465 and I-65. Very noisy and not to picturesque along that portion. Appears to be a good cross country skiing trail due to it being a flat trail. Someone has used it for that as there were ski tracks in the snow. Highlight of the hike, spotted a big buck crossing the trail. However, I was to slow to get a picture.
