Perfect weather, dry conditions, easy trail with a variety of ecosystems to experience (forest, open clearing, marsh, pond, creek). Early in the hike, a hawk dropped by to capture a meal then flew off. Note that the parts of the trail closest to the parking lot tend to be busy.

Walking

The trail has a lot of different personalities. The flat section is pretty boring. More elevation changes & things to see in the narrower forest sections. Awesome bird watching in the nature preserve. Hike clockwise to go down the stairs.

We thought this hike would be 2.5 miles and it turned out to be 3 which was a little long for the younger kids. But we really enjoyed going into the nature preserve. There were a few spots that were a little tougher and the bugs were obnoxious at times but we are obviously walking through their home. We had one kiddie breakdown spot and had to carry the 2 year old but I keep telling myself that was a good cardio. We will probably try to do this again but maybe when it is cooler and not later in the evening.

Relatively easy trail. Open fields and trails through wooded areas. Saw deer.

Even after a heavy rain yesterday it was a great hike. Didn’t enjoy the open areas as the trail wasn’t marked well but overall it was a fun walk. Prefer the blue trail over this one but still fun and lots of wildlife

Combination of overgrown, shaded, stairs, and driven-over paths. Can definitely see how it would get muddy, per the other comments. Very good trail for beginners and dogs.

Some areas are overgrown. Trail is very very muddy right now (June 2019). Lots of water and thick mud. May be better for hiking this time of year but not for running.

Might be okay for hiking but an absolute mess right now for trail running. Might as well go attempt to run in a swamp.

This is a nice trail. It was beautiful weather, but it rained the few days before so it was very very muddy. The dog loved it though.

Longer and harder than I expected. And early April in Indiana = lots of shoe sucking mud.

Park was very nice and plan to return for other trails. The orange trail was marked pretty clear, fairly easy, and not busy at all. We did not pass a single person during the entire hike.

First to Review

I hiked the Red and Orange trails. Both were nice, but I definitely enjoyed the Red more. The park overall is beautiful and has a good variety of trails! It was pretty busy when I went, but since I’m a solo female hiker I didn’t mind. I will definitely go back.
