Getting There

Ray Lake boasts three wetlands totaling 120 acres, 80 acres of woodlands with predominantly bur oak, hickory and cherry trees, and sprawling farm fields ready to be restored to prairie. Two peninsulas separate two large wetlands. Once known as Ray Lake Farm, the land here was originally acquired by the Ray family in 1958 for breeding and raising pure bred Angus beef cattle. In the late 1960s, the family acquired the Dwight Eisenhower Black Angus herd from Missouri and raised their own herd to 400. By 1976, the last of the herd was sold. After the passing of Edward Ray, the farm was leased for soybean farming until 1999 when the property was bought. As a symbol of the lands former use, the original Ray Lake Farm cattle statue remains atop a stone tower to greet visitors as they enter the preserve.

Wide paths and pleasant views. Mostly good for biking but I had a nice lonely walk in the rain.

This is a nice little loop trail but very buggy. Bring spray and water. The fountain is broken.

The park itself is typical of what you will see in lake county... very well kept. Bathroom is clean. Rated it lower because there's not much shade, not as much to look at and a huge amount of people that don't pick up their dog poop.

I like this trail for bird watching. In addition the condition of the loop is consistently manicured and smooth.

Out of the way. Quiet. Pretty with birds. Nice looped trail. Exposed. No real shading. Worth doing.

Went for a run on the trail with my dog. Nice little out-of-the-way track. Trail pretty flat but lots of birds
