Short trail near the Carlyle Lake West Spillway Picnic Area. It is a bottom ground trail, can be muddy or flooded. During warmer temperatures, bugs can be an issue. 3/4 mile loop trail through Kaskaskia River Bottom, located near the Carlyle Lake Dam.

Simple loop, walked on a windy cool June morning. No bug issues. Saw young hawks, at very close range, but no other critters.

I chose for stars because the trail is exactly as it is described. if you take the left Branch first you'll walk in a more exposed environment and finish in the lower Shady Trail. added a picture to show where to turn right when you take the left branch. if you continue without making that right turn you will come out to one of the many camping areas. there are restrooms at the camping area.##### 5 minutes later---- we just pulled about twenty ticks off of our shoes, legs and dog.

Short loop trail through river bottom ground. Can be muddy and mosquito infested. Works good for a short easy access hike. Has wide a wide trail through the woods and grass prairie
