Cave In Rock State Park is the site of a natural cave on the northern shore of the Ohio River. In normal weather there is a short and easy (smooth and level) trail that leads along the shore to the mouth of the cave but, during high water, I am told that the trail and cave floods. As a result, while the mouth of the cave appears bone dry, the interior can be a slippery mud pit. I recommend wearing boots since much of the cave floor is wet clay. The cave is short and would be a fun place for children to explore without the possibility of getting lost. And if you enjoy photography, try to bring a camera where you can adjust the aperture to take photos both in the darker areas toward the back of the cave and in the lighter areas up front.

Great place for kids. I live nearby - and always had- but had never been! We enjoyed a family picnic and simple exploring. It was well worth the short drive.

Nice town folks, camping and hiking. Enjoying the river and the tall cottonwood trees at the ferry campground.

The Cave-in-Rock is the main thing for the trail. The trails easy and allowed my dog some swim time while staring at the cave.

very short, but the cave is massive! The cave was actually filmed in the western "How the west was won". scenic from the top overlooking the river. If your in the area it would be worth looking at but wouldn't go out of the way to check it.
