I especially recommend Lock 21 lift Bridge, Lock 22 Lift Bridge, Lock 26 Lift Bridge. Also highly recommend Lock 3 area and Lock 17 area. Was very buggy with biting flies when we went though.

This is a lovely little-used trail right next to the canal. Good for a walk or a bike with medium or higher tires. No wildlife out today.

The Hennepin Canal trail is most certainly more than 59.6 miles. It runs 104 miles, easily. From very near the Illinois River at Bureau, IL. to the Mississippi River. A north fork even runs to the Rock River in Rock Falls, IL. We've biked over 1,300 miles total just on the Hennepin Canal.

We started in Colona rode to Genseo and back. Trail route is great, sadly it is in need of TLC. Definitely not a road bike trail. It is necessary to get off and walk your bike through the ditch when the trail ends randomly. I would definitely do it again though.

Very flat trail that parallels the Hennepin Canal. It is paved all the way, but since the road is not maintained very well, grass has overtaken the road in many places and in places there are potholes. No tree roots though! I ran this trail from Sheffield to Colona mainly at night. I imagine this would be a beautiful run during the day. Depending upon the time of day there would be very little shade since trees only are on one side of the trail. .
