This is a very busy trail with many narrow portions where you cannot maintain a 6ft distance from others. Most other hikers were not wearing masks. Bathrooms in the visitor center were open and had soap. Porta potties also available. The variety of landscapes along this trail - bluff views, canyon views, riverside views - make it a fun trek. We found several different types of mushrooms.

Not sure why this is marked as a moderate trail. Everything is built out for you and it feels like nothing more than a regular stroll in the park. The rock formations and waterfall are not bad but the “trail” itself is quite disappointing. This is more of a family outing kind of place as opposed to an actual hiking trail.

Short, easy hike. could be a bit slippery when having to walk through the water and rocks depending on how much it has rained. Waterfall is very pretty. We were there during the week and it was a little busy. I could definitely see it getting overcrowded on the weekends.

Nice hike. A bit crowded but nothing like other reviews though it’s Friday morning. Would recommend though not sure it’s moderate. Maybe easy to moderate.

I had a great hike. The hike w as s more work than the easy rated hikes but was still very good for someone just beginning.

Beautiful! The waterfall was stunning. This is definitely a crowd pleaser so it was busy but everyone kind of took turns to get their pictures in. You can even go and put your feet in the water if you choose. It rained the day before so it was MUDDY!

The French canyon trail is my favorite of the trails available at Starved Rock State Park. Sometimes the trail maintenance isnt up to par and parts of the trail are very washed out. The falls in the canyons (weather permitting) are well worth the hike!

Easy hike. I would really consider this more easy/beginner than moderate. Very doable, and I even carried my dog part of the way without feeling winded.

Beautiful short hike with great reward at the end of the trail! Would love to see it in the spring when the waterfall is flowing. Very shaded and comfortable hike.

crowded and noisy when I went. The canyon is beautiful but I prefer a quieter experience in nature.

Well worth the muddy shoes. We were able to do this trail and three others in 3 hours with 7 year olds for a total of 3 miles. Parking is very limited with flooded lots so get to the park before 11AM to not wait around for parking.

There wasn’t any water running through when I went. So many people. Mostly hiking along side the river. It was alright.

Awesome location with beautiful scenery, tons of canyons to explore and waterfalls to cool off in. 10/10 would hike again.

Love hiking to this waterfall. You have to straddle the small creek with your feet on either side of the canyon entrance to get up to the waterfall, but it is not hard to do.

All the trail in Starved rock are great. This one is closer in to the trailhead than many but is overlooked because it is a dead end. But, it is well worth it.
