Cedar Bluff Trail is a 3.9 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Buncombe, Illinois that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible year-round.
A short hike on this trail leads up to scenic vista atop Cedar Bluff. For those interested in a longer hike, the trail proceeds from the vista along the ridge top then descends the bluff and intersects with the Bobcat Loop Trail.
It is a grassy gravel road that winds along a ridgeline. I went .7 miles in and turned back. A quiet walk in the woods.
Would probably be a 4 star trail if it were maintained at all. No effort, no signs or markers on the trail either. Shame.
Nice, quiet hike. Some hills but very manageable. A lot of the flatter parts were really overgrown.
An easy hike up through a glade and then to the top of Cedar Bluff for several panoramic overlooks. The trail continues on to the Bobcat Loop Trail on an old logging road that is thick with grasses. I'm sure it is spectacular in fall, enjoyable in spring and winter, but I shudder to think about the ticks and chiggers in the summer but I don't speak from experience about that.
