Burnham Greenway Trail is a 4.5 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Calumet City, Illinois that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until September. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This trail runs perpendicular to several main roads in the area so you'll have to cross traffic every mile or so, but the in between parts are lovely. There's a stream near part of it, bridges and the back of houses. You'll meet people walking their dogs and biking on here often. When you get to the parking lot, park right by the entrance. The lot is huge so if you head toward Torrence, you’re going through wrong way. Head behind the water park.
This is a pretty easy paved trail. When you get to the parking lot, park right by the entrance. The lot is huge so if you head toward Torrence, you’re going through wrong way. Head behind the water park. There was hardly anyone there on a Sunday. Most of trail has houses and businesses within 20-30 yards so you feel like you’re right next to someone’s house. It’s very peaceful though.

First as it is constucted now it is only about 6 miles long. It will soon be closer to 10 miles once the town of Munster finishes their part of the trail which is to happen this fall 2012. It goes thru some industrial areas but also has some very nice forested and suburban areas as well.
