Great hike through the woods on a ridge line with a very steep and gravelly ascent to get to the summit. Well worth it. This is a remote trail by Illinois standards and we did not see any other people the entire hike. We considered returning on 201A but it was pretty muddy following heavy rains in the Shawnee region. This was a pretty challenging trail. You can make it into a loop by joining 201 and 201A. We chose to take 201 to the cross and the inclines were fairly steep. On the return, 201A can be found behind the visitor center. We had to walk the edge of the tree line to find it, since the signage is not visible. I really only found it by seeing the walking sticks on the ground. I'll definitely return to ascend counter-clockwise!

One of the more difficult trails in the area due to its steepness, which is what has always intrigued me about it. Saw some fresh bobcat tracks in the snow.
