Not much of a hike, pretty flat. You can see dear here and there's a river that's sometimes empty or sometimes full. It's clean out there but to be honest there's not much of a view ever. Considering the location it's one of the better ones but overall on all the trails I've hiked its boring and uneventful.
Definitely the best hiking trail around Champaign-Urbana. It's tucked away from the interstate and is very quiet.
Great place to visit. We brought a sack picnic with a nice merlot
very peaceful and easy hiking
Beautiful fall day. Trails were dry and easy to hike.
Beautiful trails. I recommend parking on the South side of the park if you are going specifically for the hiking. There are a total of6 walking trails but you cannot access all from one side. You can access 3 on the south side and 3 on the north side. We chose to do the south side. It was absolutely beautiful. It was a nice change of scenery (tall trees and thick landscape rather than dry, flat, corn fields). Not a difficult walk by any means but it's a nice morning activity. We completed all 3 trails on the south side within 2 1/2 hours (with stopping for lunch and to take pictures). Nice easy getaway from the mundane :)
Trail starts near Allerton Mansion and goes through impressive gardens. Then through thick forest and by river. Lots of deer and Red Headed Woodpeckers.
