HikingGreat!

Went on 4/4/21. the trails were well maintained. there were a few muddy patches where the trail had previously been flooded but it was easy to navigate around them. the observatory is very cool. a fellow hiker gave us a brief history of it, which was neat. traffic was very light on the trail. we will definitely be back once all the vegetation comes back to life.

Perfect day trip. The path was washed out. A literal river forced me to cut through the woods to find where the trail picked up again. Really cool place! Waterproof boots are a must 03/22/2021.

HikingMuddy

Nice hike very very muddy I wish the state would ad some erosion control steps in the two hills on the trail possibly a wooden staircase. It a nice forest hike with an interesting nugget to check out at the end of the loop before you head back.

WalkingMuddy

Easy trail with a few hills. It was very muddy when we went. Took several kids and they didn’t have any problems. The observatory was cool, total post apocalyptic vibe, especially on our gloomy winter day visit. We walked down to the river to get a closer look at it, it was beautiful and so clear!

The hike is quite simple and, at times, it doesn’t feel like you’re on a trail. The observatory is fun to explore especially if you’re feeling adventurous.

The sign at the trail head says Whispering Pines Nature Trail (see photo) and lists the hike as moderate. It’s actually an easy, beautifully shady hike with a fun destination. The whole park is lovely- we may come back and camp sometime.
