amazing trail, but don't be a dumbass like me and start at noon when it's 92F. I went counterclockwise and drank 3.5 L of water, and wished I had more. Had to stop for a shade break about 1 mile from the end (there's like 3 places in the whole loop that have shade in the afternoon). The upside to being super dangerous and possibly getting mild heat exhaustion is that there was hardly anyone else out! I saw no bikers and 3 hikers the whole time.

This is a great trail to go on in the morning during this time of year. When I mentioned bugs, I was only referring to the enormous amount of Mormon crickets. They love to eat each other. Lol. The trail was a little overgrown going up Wilson Creek. I find this trail very enjoyable and it reminds me of a cross between Joshua Tree National Park and Moab, Utah

Awesome trail. No shade. Spectacular views. Best time to go is when it’s below 80 degrees

Wonderful time, not much traffic or people which was perfect sense we are practicing social distancing. Small little picnic and a couple of games of “Hot Lava”up and down the hillside.

Backpacking

Great trail in “little MOAB.” If you’re hiking/backpacking, trekking poles are recommended for the upper canyon (at the beginning of the trail if you start heading right from the parking lot or end of the trail is you’re heading left to start the trail). You’ll cross the same creek 25+ times stepping on small, spread out rocks. Water runs along this area until you exit the canyon and head up to a ridge. From here the only water is behind you in the canyon or ahead at the lower canyon. Weather was about 65° during the day and 30° at night, no muddy trails. Lots of mtn bikers, which would be a GREAT place to mtn bike. Dog friendly. Saw lizards, crows, a heard of deer, ladybugs, and a few butterflies. Heard a couple packs of coyotes in the distance and howled with them (checked that off the bucket list, jk but that was cool). Scenic terrain for Milky Way shots if you’re into that. Only an hour away from Boise.

Great hike for a mild November day. Cliffs were scenic, water was burbling in Wilson Creek. Saw a great-horned owl, a flicker, and a small snake (no rattle). There were bikers and horse riders out but it was not as busy as a lot of the Boise foothills trails. I downloaded the map to my phone but had reception for a good portion of the hike. We were able to navigate the route without much trouble, but the crisscrossing treads could be confusing without a map. The dust was deep and fluffy on the trail and would quickly turn to thick gumbo in a rain.

It’s a shame this trail isn’t better maintained and had better signage, because some of the views were really incredible. I would’ve been completely lost without the map on here, because the trail marking was just so poor. The trail was more overgrown than not, and some spots were up to my shoulders. This is a spring/fall hike or early morning because there’s no shade, it is very hot, and very desert-like. Overall, it was an ok hike. Not sure I’d go again unless I went on horseback.

First time at Wilson Creek. You definitely need GPS if you’re unfamiliar with the trials. Got briefly lost a few times as I was following another persons recording. Absolutely NO shade and lots of bugs but they run and jump from you so I wasn’t bothered by them. Have it at a 3 because I felt they could have better signs. Didn’t have one with a “you are here” or any details besides just the trail number.

I would like to recommend this Trail to anyone who likes to go birding. I saw a large variety of birds and was serenaded by them the entire hike. The views are amazing, yes streams are still running so it was muddy but that's just fine.

I would recommend going south, some parts aren’t well marked had s great time. At this time of year all the creeks are completely dry.

I really enjoy the openness and views. The serenity and quietness. Walk softly and you will see the wildlife. A variety of birds. I also enjoy the challenge it brings as a mountain biker..
