The trip is about 2.20 miles round trip. It’s very hot with no shade so if you’re going in the heat of the day have plenty of water and sunscreen. I wish we had read up more about tree molds before we headed out, I think we felt like it was a little anticlimactic but the views at the end are nice.

While the idea of seeing volcanic tree molds sounds intriguing, in reality they look just like any other hole in the ground. Landscape is interesting but not the most spectacular in the park

Nice hike among the flows. Kinda disappointed by the tree molds but hey the hike was really nice. Lots to look at and loads of questions about the area.

An excellent trail -- one in which the journey will be better than the end. The Tree Molds were cool. It is one worth doing! Nice scenery all the way and great photo ops.

Fun trail. Nice hike. Interesting to see the trees that were overtaken by the lava.

Seeing the molds of trees caught in the lava flow was fascinating in this interesting landscape of different kinds of lava. The various plants and trees are interesting, too.

The end of this trail is a little anti-climactic (where the actual tree molds are) but the hike was nice. Not a ton of shade options so if you are going during that hot part of the day, sunscreen and water!

First to Review

The tree molds are probably the least scenic part of this whole trail. The trip in is beautiful, with a crater, shrubs, trees and of course the vast wilderness of the volcanic wasteland, always beckoning for you to wander out into it.
