Nice and easy loop trail. It seems to be used very little, as I didn’t see another soul even on a beautiful holiday weekend. Plus it’s overgrown in parts. There’s not much in the way of lake views even though you’re right by lake coeur d’alene, but it is still very nice. You start on a road that you walk up for about ten to fifteen minutes. Then you get to this loop as well as the Whitetail loop. The trails are well marked and there are even maps provided. Going clockwise on this loop the slope is gentle and long. You’ll break aight sweat but it doesn’t get any harder until a very short ascent near the top. The trail down is steep and short—this is where it tends to be a little overgrown. There’s lots of shade along the trail but also bugs.

This was an awesome trail. Start from the left and it’s a gradual uphill for about 2/3 then a pretty steep downhill. The length of trail includes the road to get to the actual loop. So pretty. Perfect weather. Passed one guy on the way in other than that, no one. Beautiful and quiet.

Great trail. A little overgrown on the downhill of the loop. Beautiful butterflies and view at the butte. Nice cardio workout on the gradual climb up.

Good trail overall. First two thirds is gentle slope up on fire roads, last third is steeper downhill on single track trail. Nice mix of sunny and shady on the trail. Parked by the fire road turnout by the Hayburn park sign. View points are a little overgrown, nice views of the lake but not great.

Great hike! We parked on the fire road at the entrance of the park which got us to Mullan Road and a map that directed us to the trail. We plan to start at the lake on our next trip. Beautiful scenery with a nice climb.

Trail has been maintained well. All downed trees have been cut off trail as of 4/11/20. 600ft gain took my breath away and was not gradual but a great workout!
