The first portion of the trail is mapped out on a dirt road that we drove 8 miles down to reach the first campground (Chinook CG). This cut out the entire Ruby meadows portion which we later realized connected to loon lake via a different route that would have been trail. After staying the night at Chinook, we hiked about 5 miles to Loon lake and decided to continue on to Duck Lake, only to find out the trail was no longer maintained and it ended up disappearing entirely about 2 miles past Loon Lake. We ended up camping that night at Loon Lake and then heading home in the morning. While it was disappointing that our 45 mile trail turned into a 14 mile trail it was still a beautiful area with plenty of wildlife around and Loon Lake was amazing.
