HikingGreat!

Good hike convenient to the town center. If you’ve skied the mountain this will be fun to see it “uncovered” but you will have the sense that you’re hiking on a ski hill even if a chairlift is not constantly visible. We enjoyed it as a quick one before a beer and dinner.

Beautiful hike. Loved the lookout point about halfway up (give or take). There were a couple spots that gave me some vertigo.... very steep and the trail very narrow with loose dirt/gravel. Saw 4 grouse. Generally really enjoyed exploring one of Sun Valley’s most popular ski mountains.

Moderate to hard depending on your fit. We only hiked to the scenic overlook about half way up. Beautiful area to hang and see the entire town. You go from 5800 feet elevation to about 6700. Of course you can go all the way up to Rohndhouse area or turn back.

Good traverse. Rocks isome places. What do you expect? This is a ski resort. Excellent. Our dog loved it and we got to ride down the free gondola.

We went the wrong way so our hike was a bit more vertical, but we made it.

Great hike with beautiful views of the valley throughout. Part of the trail is closed for tree cutting so there are clear signs marking the detour route, which includes a steep walk partially up one of the ski runs. Wildflowers are beautiful!

Hiked the rim to Seattle Lodge. Uphill back from lodge was challenging. Hot, open, elevation changes pronounced at high altitude. Great 360 views of Sawtooths.

We took the Gondola and Christmas chairlift to the top of Bald mountain. Then hiked down 2 miles to the Roundhouse restaurant, had wonderful lunch then took the Gondola down. Awesome hike and awesome views.

Great hike right out of Ketchum! We hiked up the bald mountain trail to the roundhouse connector and clocked in at 3.9 miles at the top. Took the gondola down for free! Great upward hike and great downward ride as the reward.

Hiking

AllTrails description says 7.7 miles but we recorded 6.5 miles. This hike has cool shady forest, river views, exposed wildflower hills, Ketchum overlook, and a ride down on a gondola. Note: this is an uphill hike! We encountered 15-20 people (some with dogs, 3 on bikes) — most of whom were headed down mountain. It’s our understanding that many folks do this hike in reverse: ride the gondola up (for a fee) and enjoy the hike down. For those like us who took on the uphill challenge, one of the rewards is that the gondola ride down is free :) We noted that the menu of the restaurant at the top of the gondola (The Roundhouse) had a decent looking menu, though we did not eat there.

Nice challenging hike. Part of the trail was closed (work in progress) so there was a detour. Partially went off-road but got back on the detour path. Made it a loop after reaching Roudhouse by following the ski lanes (Olympic lane).

Hiking

Good workout. Nice views of the Sawtooths at the Roundhouse. During the hike, you’re primarily looking at the ski runs and the town of Ketchum, not exactly wilderness and that’s why this hike ranks a bit lower. It was hot and dusty. Everything was dried out.

Hiking

This trail as mapped here is to Roundhouse NOT the summit. The summit is an additional 2 miles (and about another 1800' elevation gain!) one way from the Roundhouse Connector, which is itself .7 miles. The signs at the bottom are misleading because it says 3.7 mi. to Roundhouse and 5 to the summit but the connector makes it so that it's a considerable detour to do so. Pro Tip: the gondola at roundhouse is free on the way down. If you want to continue to the summit, you can append that 4 mile round trip and take the connector to roundhouse for the free ride down making for a 7.7 mi total trail. Roundhouse is worth a stop too for some food and beer and to really absorb those views!

I’ve done this hike more than once. Mid July was a mistake. So hot and dusty and crowded. Definitely would recommend this as a late spring/early fall hike to see the colors. If you aren’t used to the elevation, this will be difficult. I came upon a couple groups who were considering turning around. Even if you only make it to the first outlook, it’d be a nice short hike. No water for the dogs on the way up, so be prepared to pack plenty for them too! Mile 1 is in the shade. Mile 2 and most of 3 is in direct sun. Finishes in partial shade, and much cooler at the top. It’s not my favorite view in the valley, I do it more for conditioning. Still enjoyable enough, and recommended if you’re from out of town so you can enjoy the gondola and grab a drink at Roundhouse.

Hiking

Moderately strenuous trail with great views the whole way. The hike to the overlook is predominantly shady, and the rest of the hike is a nice balance of sun and shade. We hiked this Sept. 30th, and the trail was clear, although we saw snow patches higher up. We turned this into a loop by hiking up Bald Mountain Trail, then coming down Saddle Up Flow Trail and taking the Roundhouse Connector Trail back to the main trail. This trail also works for running; although parts are rocky, we found it relatively smooth and root-free.

My track below is the Bald Mountain Trail. It is a tough up but worth the effort. Free ride down the mountain. Great lunch at Roundhouse Resturant.

This was difficult. We ride the gondola up, not really planning a hike. We got to the top to take a look at the beautiful view and decided to walk down. Quite steep at times. Lots of rocks. Good hike tho. Very pretty.

Not sure what trail Sam is talking about. The Cold Springs trail I hike starts at the bottom of the Cold Springs lift. However, just to get to this trailhead u have to hike up a fairly steep road that may actually be the hardest part of the hike. The trail winds around the south side of Seattle Ridge and finally ends at the top of the Broadway ski run. However, u are not yet to the top. Plan this hike carefully as it is not a family friendly hike. It will wear u out. However once u get to the top u get a free ride down on the lift/gondola.
