Good trail. Note, you do not have to take the ferry to the trailhead as this map shows. There is a trail that takes you to the same place if you want to add 5 miles each way to your journey. Beautiful lake view most of the way if you do this, plus save the $19 ferry fee. But I’m not going to lie, I was really tempted to take the ferry back the next day. The lake itself is beautiful. Worth the hike either way.

You def need to take ferry across red fish. This hike is a challenge if you are packing a 65 lbs pack. It it more like9 miles to the 3 rd Cramer lake( even with taking ferry) . Lots of shade, one large river crossing( bring water shoes)

Awesome hike. Pretty ‘mellow’ relatively compared to other sawtooth trails but wow the bank for the buck is rich! Middle and upper Cramer lakes are just spectacular. The river crossing down low is only mid shin if you just look a little for the right spot to cross. Plenty of creeks on the way up for the pup to stay hydrated. We spent two nights and did a day hike up the pass towards hidden lake that would be legit grinder w a pack on for those continuing on or looping down. Bugs surprisingly not nearly as bad as I anticipated. Would do this again in a heart beat. Enjoy!

Amazing hike! The trail is long but not hard. Got it done with a few breaks in 6.5 hours, 15 miles round trip. The water crossing was about hip deep and I’m 5’4. It’s cold but totally worth it!

FishingBugsGreat!

Moderate hike - not too much elevation. Lots of rockslides in this valley; a huge one occured just ~2.5miles into the trail the day after we passed by. Had when been there at the time.....it would not have been good; probably best to go late season (August and September). Regardless, the hike was pleasant, with stunning views at the Cramer lakes. Fishing was ehhh - mostly small Brook Trout. Great swimming in Middle Cramer Lake, just below the waterfall. Make sure to bring bug spray (100% deet). The mosquitoes are thick.

First to Review

Took the Ferry from the Redfish Lake Marina to the Redfish Lake Inlet. from there the trail shoots straight up into the valley and through the Sawtooth wilderness. It's worth hiking up to the stream that flows from the Upper Cramer Lake to Middle Cramer Lake. There is a waterfall! I Backpacked there for two nights at the end of June. there were still patches of snow here and there. Incredible scenery. There is one stream crossing right after the junction with the trail to Alpine Lake.
