Going up the Red Cliffs trail is a fairly steady climb, but not lung-busting. Nice views from the top. The rest of the loop hike is level or downhill. Walking the trail with pace provides a good workout.

I would recommend going clockwise unless you have trekking poles.

Simply beautiful. I went later after dinner, and it was so perfect: the silence up there is beautiful. There are definitely some bikers, so keep your eyes and ears peeled, but much of the time I was by myself. I loved taking it counter clockwise; you go through the valley first, and then get to enjoy the views the rest of the way I would highly recommend!

Hard packed soil and a lot of bike traffic. I couldn’t go more than a 1/3 of a mile without yielding to mountain bikers. I wouldn’t recommend for running.

Red Cliffs is a wonderful hike. I really enjoyed it! The trail runs by and crosses a little creek and winds past the red cliffs and up and around the rolling hills. I was blessed enough to get there early on June 21st, the longest day of the year and see the sun rise. The trail is rated moderate, with nice inclines to get your heart rate up as it climbs up to beautiful views. The time of year I hiked, the hills were covered in long thick grass and various wild flowers: blue, white, purple, and yellow.

Great trail system just a few minutes away from downtown Boise. Nice rolling hills, well maintained and lots of different routes to take. Watch out for bikers, they are many though they are courteous. Oh, and one snake!

So many bicyclists. Not a great hike with them flying around all the bends. We had to step off the trail approximately every 5 minutes to let a Mountain bike pass by.

Depending on which side you start on it’s either all up and all down. Almost splits in half from vertical to downhill.

Dogs can be off leash for most of trail. Heavy biker action with few providing a heads-up upon approach. Overall, good experience not too challenging.

HikingMuddy

It was raining when we went so it was a little muddy. The red rocks or cliffs that you pass on the trail had carvings all over it. It was still a nice trail.

Easy trail, no shade. Lots of mountain bikers which was a little difficult for us having little kids. Had to move to the side at least every 3 minutes. But overall it was a nice relaxing hike. We have 4 kids ages 11-5.

Great trail, nice view, lovely wild flowers. There is a climb that will get your blood pumping if walking a quick 15-20 minute mile, but certainly not to strenuous at a more relaxed pace. A good trail for running as well.
