Hiked 14 October 20020. We left Boise around 9:00am, so we started the hike a bit late. It was very windy and quite cold. The trail had a lot of needle ice all around which made it a very beautiful hike. There were about 5 cars in the parking lot, and we passed two groups on our hike. We stopped at Farley Lake to enjoy the view and turned around after that. Farley Lake was absolutely beautiful with the mountain behind it.
Excellent trail. I did it downhill on the way back from a larger loop including Alice, Toxaway, and Imogene Lakes. We found an awesome campsite on a peninsula on Farley Lake for our last night. The trail is in good condition and extremely scenic. There was one major creek crossing that is several inches deep that could not be avoided. I walked through and got my shoes wet, but my hiking partners wearing boots stayed dry.
Totally awe inspiring backpacking trip. Camped at Alice Lake, then went up and over to Toxaway Lake and out to parking lot on the 2nd day. 2nd day was long as we went up to the passes above Toxaway but it was totally worth it. I’d recommend a 2nd night either at Toxaway or Farley Lake to really take it all in.
