Murdock Creek is a 6.3 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Ketchum, Idaho that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, and mountain biking and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Drive past the SNRA Headquarters(see East Fork directions above) to the first Y-junction. Take a right and continue .5 miles to the trailhead.
A delightful trail when it is along the creek, fairly flat in the beginning. The second half is pretty steep on gravel or shale which makes the down times treacherous. You cross the creek twice with a bridge (in the first bit) and then twice without bridges (people have lovingly placed logs or rocks to hop across without getting wet) and then one more time past the end of the official trail. It goes back up the mountainside past the 3.2 miles but we didn't go all the way up the mountain and decided that 3.7 miles was enough for us (one way),
The first part of the trail was lovely! Shaded and next to the creek. Second half had some steep climbs, but worth it.
Lovely shaded portion that follows the creek for about the 1st mile. We did it with 8yr, 6yr and 2 yr in backpack. Gets a little steep past that, some slippery dirt and rocky inclines. Be sure to bring a towel and some bug spray! Kids loved playing in the shallow creek near the trailhead.
just hiked the first part before going uphill. very nice easy trail that far with lots of wildflowers, follows the creek and mostly in the shade.
Went out about 2.5 miles then returned. Big downed tree at mile 2.4 and predicted huge elevation gain right before end of trial so that’s why I turned back early. Good trail variety - alongside talus slopes, beside creek, nice views and shade variety
Very nice trail up a canyon with a creek running through it (at least at the end of May). For the first mile or so, the trail is wide and mostly flat with very little incline. It is suitable for just about anyone. About 1.25 mile in (about .2 mile past the 2nd bridge), the trail narrows and there are a few steep sections and some spots that are a bit sketchy. At about 1.5 miles in, there are spots where the trail is only about 18 in wide and there is a fairly steep drop off. I would not want to bring young children or people who are not comfortable with that sort of thing through here. Past 1.5 miles in it is not an easy trail. Also, the AllTrails app kept telling me I was off the trail, even though I wasn't
Pretty fun trail with a lot of variation. The first mile or so is a wide, soft trail that follows the creek, pretty flat. Then the trail narrows and with some pretty steep and rocky ups and downs for another 2.5 miles. Fun to follow the creek up the canyon, there was really no natural end to the trail, we followed for a quarter mile past the end marked on AllTrails, trail kept going but we turned back. 7.75 round trip.
Needed to get out to hike. It was close to camp but we could have possibly found a more entertaining hike. This hike goes from a mellow wilderness smooth and flat trail to a loose, gamey trail. Good hiking though.
Gorgeous scenery, beautiful leisurely walk, wheelchair accessible for part of the trail. Had my 10 year old daughter with me so we had to turn back at the severe incline, but I intend to go back to see if the second half of the trail matches the first half in beauty. Definitely would recommend.
