HikingGreat!

The views on top are definitely worth the effort to drive and also worth the hike. We fortunately had great temperatures and sun. The last mile or so would recommend a higher clearance vehicle. A Subaru truck Jeep should have no problems going over the dozen or so humps. Now if you take a Camry, Accord, civic you most likely will scrape the bottom. Last .4 miles of hike it gets steeper and accounts for half the elevation gain. Just take your time and bring water and snacks. The view of Chimney Rock and Priest Lake were spectacular. If opportunity allows hit Cavanaugh Bay Resort afterwards for a great meal on there patio. Great Day at Priest!

Naive Google Maps directions could lead you to closed logging roads. These good directions with middle waypoints will keep you on the open roads: https://goo.gl/maps/NU5voUS7NcwBkMdx6

At mile 4 off Road 24, take that left side road and at the next fork in the road you'll see a karyn built on the ground, stay left. Definitely need 4 wheel drive for last half mile of dirt road. The trail is well maintained and the views are killer. Besides the road, the hike was awesome.

The hike was not worth the drive. The last half mile of road is fraught rediculous Kelly humps. 1.5 miles of dusty root riddled rocky trail lead to a nice view of Chimney Rock. Save your gas, time, wear and tear on your vehicle for better trails and views.

Nice hike with great views of Priest lake, Hunt lake, and Chimney rock! Interesting rock person on top of Mount Roothaan...wounded if it was a memorial...

Favorite hike for our extended family. We do a hike every summer on our week vacation at Priest Lake. We have between 10-15 family members that go every year. This past summer was our third time doing this hike. Roothaan is the favorite for most in our group. Spectacular views of the lake on a clear day. Road to the trailhead is pretty rough. There were several down trees over the trail this year.

Directions to the trailhead are incorrect. The correct dirt road off of East Shore Drive is about 0.5 miles further south. The last couple of miles to the TH are pretty rough. Great hike to Mount Roothaan! You can check out our hike here - https://www.youtube.com/user/TheDwpdds

The views are endless and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. Steep scramble the last half mile, but worth it! Some snow on the trail and few blow downs. Take bear spray, as this is Grizzly country. ** The road gets dicey the closer you get to the trailhead— must have high clearance vehicle.
