The Mesa Falls Nature Trail begins in the Upper Mesa Falls parking lot, ending just above the Lower Mesa Falls, and is primarily used for hiking. The trailhead can be found on the south end of the parking lot. The Mesa Falls Nature Trail is the best way to see the Lower Mesa Falls. It's an easy hike ending on the plateau just above the Lower Falls. If you're really adventurous, there is a trail from the plateau that leads down to the Lower Falls. You can stand on the very edge of the Lower Falls themselves. Important note: This is not the Upper Mesa Falls boardwalk trail.

I really enjoyed this, beautiful view of the lower mesa falls. Most rewarding if you take the steep hike down through the rocks to be right next to the river and water falls.

Great 2 mile trail starting at the upper Mesa falls and going to the lower. Both Falls are amazing, but the upper is breath-taking as you can stand right beside it. The nature trail leaves from the upper Falls parking lot and is an easy hike on dirt with a bit of gravel in the beginning. Ends at a great view looking down on lower falls.

Normally I hate these kinds of "trails" however, the forest service did a great job to make you still feel like you're in nature and not just walking on a boardwalk. Plus, the wonderful waterfall is a bonus.

Very beautiful trail, plus very easy.
Explore around at the lower falls end of the trail and you can find trails leading to the top of the falls and a little further down the river. But wear shoes with decent tread if you want to do those- they are steep and slippery.

This is a great spot to take little and not so little kids on a little walk down to beautiful waterfall views. This is a favorite spot we take family from out of state when they come to visit.

The trail itself is very easy, flat, and wide. It offers two great, wide open views towards the middle and at the end. You don't get a very good view of the lower falls from the main trail, so if you can, I would recommend taking the side trail down.

To get to the edge of the lower falls, you need to do quite a bit of moderate scrambling on an open-faced talus field. It gets pretty steep, but if you are able, the view of the lower falls is fantastic right from the edge!

One of my favorite places while living in Idaho -- haven't been on this trail since 2016, but the views never disappoint! Be aware there is a per car fee, $5 a day (unless recently gone up), but don't let that deter you!

Great lot of small birds in this area. The end is impressive with the wide open area and the falls and river below. Very little change in elevation and lots of shade.

Nice, easy trail. Very relaxing. Perfect for a walk with the dogs.

Nice easy walk. Could have taken a jogging stroller on the trail. At the very end to get close to the falls it is really steep and somewhat difficult, some of our group didn't climb down.

The trail was a nice walking path, but once you get to the end, there are several smaller trails that lead you closer to the water. They're extremely steep, but really cool views.

Great walk. Not really a hike, but I enjoyed being close enough to the falls to feel the mist. Excellent view!

Falls are surprisingly bigger than expected. Started at the Upper Falls, and stopped at the Lower Falls lookout on the way down. Great for families with smaller kids as the walkways are very easy to navigate.

This isn't a hike, just a nice walk through the trees to see the lower falls, which are spectacular. Very easy and kids could do this with no problem.

I love this little trail. It's great for the whole family. We hiked down to the lower falls themselves using the trail on the west end of the plateau that leads down to the river. After a little scramble over some boulders we were standing on top of the falls. We even climbed into the falls and stood behind them. Totally cool!

Mesa Falls is a hidden gem in Eastern Idaho. This area is so beautiful, and the falls are impressive. If you are passing through this area, you MUST check it out. You'll be surprised at the power of these falls that you've likely never heard of until now!

Beautiful, great place to visit. If you go in the summer there are fees. My wife and I went in October and there were no fees. There are upper falls and lower falls. Apparently the lower falls is a nice place to snowshoe or cross country ski, wanted to do it, just didn't happen this last winter. Fall colors on the road up to Mesa Falls are really pretty too. Made a great lunch picnic area, I imagine it would be a little crowded in the summer. But in the off seasons it is easy to find a picnic table at the lower falls.

The drive is just OK, but the falls are spectacular. One year we hiked to the falls by snowshoe from the parking lot below. It was about a 6 mile out and back hike. Even though it was February and extremely cold, we worked up quite the sweat. The falls were amazing in the winter.
