Mostly easy out-and-back hike. The first four miles of this trail follow a gated FS road, then it's all bush-whacking. The 500-foot descent to and ascent from the falls is very steep. Most people see the iconic falls of Island Park from the overview, atop the cliff on the other side of the Henry's Fork. This destination is only feet away (don't fall in).

First of all, the first 3 miles of this “trail” is just a road. I drove it because the gate was open. After the road is over, there’s no trail at all. The vegetation completely over grew and hided the trail. I manage to go pretty far in with the aid of the GPS. However, the last quarter mile (which is a very steep down hill) I didn’t make it. No switch backs and no trail. So after sliding on loose rocks a couple times I decided to come back. It would have been to get down though if there was a trail. Notice that most reviews are talking about the little trail on the other side of the river.

Road is closed due to snow only made it to the lookout 3/18/2019. Will wait until it melts away before making descent to the falls. Still a great view

I definitely did not do the entire hike. I stopped at the overlook for my photos and walked in the trail for about a mile, then turned back. Was a beautiful area, but had a long day ahead, and thought it was the shorter of two trailheads.

Wonderfully beautiful waterfall. We must have done a different trail to this waterfall as it was an easy walk down. Lucked out and we were one of the only groups there.

Wouldn't consider it a hike. It's more like something you drive up to and get a few pictures then go back home. Still beautiful though
