Steep but short. Perfect for the kids’ first backpacking trip. Beautiful lake.

Great Little Hike! The Louie Lake trail is quite a nice hike that takes you up a ridge and to a picturesque view. The hike itself is moderate, with constant uphills, but there’s plenty of shade to rest. The trail is clearly marked and a bit rocky, but nothing too hard. If you’re going in and out, it’s a great 2-3 hour hike, which you can extend by continuing on the Boulder Lake trail.

It was my boyfriend and I’s first time doing this trail. I’m somewhat out of shape, so the first half up to the lake definitely kicked my butt, but the end views were worth it. Mosquitoes were definitely out in droves! I wore long pants and a long sleeved shirt and luckily wasn’t bit. My boyfriend wore a short sleeve shirt and was eaten alive. We’ll definitely be back and plan on checking out Boulder Lake too!

This was a nice hike today. The trail starts on a single track and after about the first 1-1.5 miles, it becomes a Jeep trail that has a lot of large rocks. The trail doesn’t let up on steepness the entire way, but the view at the end is totally worth it!

Rather disappointing. First half mile is a nice, if a bit steep singletrack, but the rest of the trail is a logging / Jeep trail. Pretty busy, with lots of off-leash dogs. Lake area is pretty, with a nice view of Jughandle Mountain. I'd recommend exploring the perimeter of the lake - there's a nice singletrack to the left. The Jeep trail continues to the right, but gets more single-tracky the longer you're on it. I actually did this as part of the Boulder Lake Loop Trail -- if you've got the time, I really recommend that one -- the views and the wildflowers from Louie Lake to Boulder Lake are incredible (as are the skeeters and horseflies)!

Nice Trail, but not possible to start at trailhead. The small stream there is to fast, wide and deep. We saw people using a fallen tree nearby to cross, but for our small one that was to heavy and slippery. We hiked towards lake boulder meadows and turned right. At the end of the dam, there are two good possibilities to cross and move back to the original trail.

6/8/20 Snowy day, parked at trail head and quickly realized the trail is impassable at this point. assuming spring runoff and all the rain/snow has caused this creek to be too fast, wide and strong to even cross. Disappointed that we couldn't hike, but another reason to come again.

Fun trail. 80% snow on the trail and the lake is still frozen over. That said, it wasnt terrible and we made it there and back with 20 kids ranging from 6-16.

We went in October and there was snow a good portion of the way covering the trail but it was pretty well packed down from previous hikers. Was slick in a few spots. The trail is very well marked to the lake. Beautiful area and gorgeous lake. Would definitely do this one again.

We went in October at the first snow and right off the bat there was a creek that we had to balance on a log to get across, very exciting but my family didn’t enjoy it too much. It was very steep and slippery and seemed to go on forever up hill, still I very much enjoyed this and would love to do that again

Gorgeous trail that leads to an amazing mountain lake. You can continue on to a longer hike around the Boulder Lake Loop. The has some good incline, but definitely doable for any level.

Beautiful little hike. I took my two boys... 7 and 9 years old and they did great! A little rocky and steep in some areas but overall very easy. The lake is great! There is a rock island that you can walk through the lake to. You can jump off the rocks and it’s a ton of fun! The water is deep enough and clear all the way to the bottom! Super peaceful and not busy at all.

Good uphill climb to the lake, the road portion is very little of the total trail and didn’t bother us in the least. Lots of folks do this trail and over fishing has ruined the trout population and made them not interested in flies. Recommend for the beauty of the lake and Mountain View.

Arrived early in the day (9 am) and parking wasn’t a problem...it was a Thursday. By the time we returned, the trailhead had more visitors but still not a problem to park. When arriving into parking lot, go to the far right as the trail takes off from there. Quite a bit of uphill but the journey is worth it to see this beautiful lake. If you wander clockwise around the lake, be prepared for muddy spots. There is one creek that you need to cross on logs (or ford). Loved it!

Took my 9 and 7 year old girls on this hike. Pretty much all up hill to the lake. There is a section that is basically a forest service road that you can cheat and take a UTV or small vehicle to within about a mile of the lake. If you start at the true trail head there is a pretty swollen creek to cross. This year there was serious snow, so crossing on logs was needed. Overall worth the uphill climb. Water is crisp and clear. you won't be alone on the trail so practice good trail etiquette.

I went to see if the trail was accessible yet but the road about 2.5 miles back from the trailhead still has about 2 feet of snow on it and can't be driven on yet this season. Just a heads up.

Great trail that leads to a beautiful lake. As of November 2018, the road leading to the trailhead was open and the well marked trail was easy to follow, even in the snow. Enjoy the views of the lake!

The views of the lake are beautiful and the trail was well marked, pretty inclined but worth it. Definitely a quick and short hike well worth the views. I would highly recommend continuing on and doing the Boulder Lake loop to really make the hike worth while if you have time.
