I highly recommend this trail it was beautiful! Wouldn’t recommend for younger children unless they do a lot of hiking, it’s a lot of up and down.

Awesome trail and great backpacking trip! Wish we could have stayed longer! The wildlife comes alive at night, walked right through our camp. A good tough backpacking trip

Steady climb in, mostly next to a small pretty stream. A lot of burn area, though, especially around the lake itself.

Nice easy cruise to a warm lake with a couple nice camping spots. Brought the dogs. Lots of creek swimming along the way for them.

HikingGreat!No shade

Nice moderate-difficult trail. The elevation gain is steady across the 4.6 miles up, and there isn't much shade. The lake is beautiful and there were lots of rainbow trout swimming around in it.

Very beautiful view but I would suggest going earlier in the day because it’s pretty much all up hill to the lake and there is not a lot of shade so it can get pretty hot.

I loved the scenery changes in this hike: by the creek and up/down hill (more up!), through meadows covered in wildflowers, in a burnt-tree forest, a wide meadow surrounded by far hills, and finally the lake! Wildflowers are out in force right now. Bring extra water or a purifier as there is limited shade. Tons of camping spots at the lake. And don’t forget to check out the meadow beyond the lake! Very few mosquitoes and no ticks. :)

Beautiful hike. Getting there to the trail was 31.5 miles of dirt roads away from Idaho City. Still, a worthwhile hike. The water flows almost the entire way. It does get a little feel of, "Come on. Are we there yet?" toward the end. But then, bam, you did it and it's a pretty lake. Quite a few hikers camped out up at the lake. Still snow across the lake but it made it even prettier to see. I couldn't really find a spot to dip my feet in like I wanted to, but still a sight to take in. The hike back out is easier and went faster. We hiked out in 2.5 hours with a 10 and 9 year old. We didn't see any wildlife but did see deer tracks and driving home, we saw 4 deer!

We hiked it in June 2, 2020. Half frozen clear lake, water running down Wolf Mountain! This trail is spectacular even when the flowers are not flooding. The creek is incredibly beautiful this time of year !

Snow

Directions to trailhead are accurate. No need for a 4WD suv either. I made it there in my VW GTI with no issues. I didn't bother tracking time or distance since I was going to make this an all day event. There is still A LOT of snow during the last mile of the hike. The lake is still frozen so leave the fishing pole at home and bring winter camping equipment if you want to stay up at the lake (as of Memorial Day weekend). All that said, it was an awesome hike and it's so peaceful and quiet at the lake. Definitely doing it again

Beautiful trail. I ran into two bears on the way back early in the morning and they just ran off. Pretty cold but overall a very enjoyable trail. I didn’t see any trash or garbage or anything just a lot of trees and flowers.
